Donald Trump said during a White House news conference that high tariffs on goods from China will “come down substantially, but it won’t be zero”.

Trump’s remarks were in response to earlier comments on Tuesday by treasury secretary Scott Bessent, who said that the high tariffs were unsustainable and that he expects a “de-escalation” in the trade war between the world’s two largest economies.

The US president said that the final tariff rate with China would come down “substantially” from the current 145%.

“It won’t be that high, not going to be that high,” Trump said.

China’s government was yet to respond to the news, but has consistently criticised Trump’s tariffs. On China’s social media platform, Weibo, Trump’s remarks trended under various hashtags including “Trump admitted defeat”.

Trump has shown no public indications that he plans to pullback his baseline 10% tariff, even as he has insisted he’s looking for other nations to cut their own import taxes and remove any non-tariff barriers that the administration says have hindered exports from the US.

China on Monday warned other countries against making trade deals with the United States that could negatively impact China.

Pete Buttigieg appears on Flagrant with Andrew Schultz on April 23rd, 2025.

A Democrat has entered the manosphere.

Pete Buttigieg, the former Secretary of Transportation in the Biden Administration and a presidential candidate in 2020, sat for a three-hour appearance on Andrew Schultz’s Flagranton Wednesday to discuss current events, the state of politics, and the culture wars — his latest foray into breaking outside of the Democrats’ preferred “echo chamber,” as he put it, and his first into the world of online, woke-skeptical bro media.

Sporting a beard, Buttigieg criticized his colleagues in the Democratic Party for shirking podcasts such as Flagrant, which conducted an interview with Donald Trump during the election. According to co-host Akaash Singh, Flagrant, which has drawn controversy for its hosts’ willingness to engage with racist content, was unable to get Democrats to agree to come on the show, prompting Buttigieg to call them out for turning down the invitation. “We have to be encountering people who don’t think like us and who don’t view the world the way we do, both in order to become smarter and better and make better choices and take better positions, and also to persuade,” he said.

Calling Buttigieg “the Democr …

Since we're using El Salvador like it's a new Gitmo. Like yes, it would still suck for the people from El Salvador.

But at least people from other countries would go back to their home country. Presumably to be treated far better than El Salvador.

Summary

RFK Jr. is using private medical records to create a registry of people with autism in the United States.

The National Institutes of Health is helping to collect private medical records from government and commercial databases, including “prescription records from pharmacies, lab testing, and genomics records from the Department of Veterans Affairs and Indian Health Service, private insurance claims, and data from smartwatches and fitness trackers.”

Kennedy, a longtime critic of vaccination, has made the study of autism one of HHS’s primary goals. He has called autism “preventable” and claimed “he can find a cure for the condition by September.”

Projects like Arubis use a web based proof of work to slow down and and potential stop not traffic. The idea is that the proof of work makes the client spend some computer resources accessing the page so that it isn't as computationally feasible to abuse public websites.

However, doing this all as a web service seems inefficient since there is always a performance penalty tied to web pages. My idea is what there could a special http protocol addition that would require the client to do a proof of work. Doing it at the browser/scaper level means that it would be Mich more efficient since the developer of the browser could tailor the code to the platform. It would also make it possible for bots to do it which would still allow scrapping but in a way that is less demanding on the server.

"The New York Times found three users on X who feuded with Mr. Musk in December only to see their reach on the social platform practically vanish overnight. The accounts are the starkest signs yet that Mr. Musk or others at the company have the power to punish critics and that they may be willing to use it, startling free speech advocates who hoped that the billionaire would be their champion."
