Someone at work that used to be my direct manager had a meeting with me to introduce themselves. They didn't recognize me at all and I didn't want to out myself by disclosing who I was, so I went along with it.

I don't like lying, and when they asked about my work history I was honest even though it created immediate suspicion (how could we have not worked together given when I started working and my job experience?), and I just shrugged. It's obviously a kind of deception to not out myself, and I don't like that - but my instincts say it's better in this context to not out myself.

Probably relevant to the context is that the boss is male, older, conservative, and an immigrant from a non-Western culture that is not open minded about these things.

I am pretty sure based on things they have said in the past that they wouldn't be tolerant of a trans person.

Anyway, to my trans elders: how have you handled situations like this?

Nintendo is hoping to wrap up its lawsuit against gamer Jesse Keighin, aka EveryGameGuru, after he failed to answer the complaint. The game giant seeks $17,500 in damages for copyright infringement, including streaming pre-release games and sharing links to emulators. In addition, Nintendo requests a broad global injunction to prevent future infringements, even for games that do not yet exist.

Immigration officials detained a US citizen for nearly 10 days in Arizona, according to court records and press reports.

As the NPR affiliate Arizona Public Media, first reported, 19-year-old Jose Hermosillo, a New Mexico resident visiting Arizona, was detained by border patrol agents in Nogales, a city along the Mexico border about an hour south of Tucson.

According to a border patrol criminal complaint, on 8 April, a border patrol official found Hermosillo “without the proper immigration documents” and claimed that the young American had admitted entering the US illegally from Mexico. Two days later, the federal court document notes that Hermosillo continued to claim he was a US citizen. On 17 April, a federal judge dismissed his case.

I've tried reverse lookup and it just keeps sending me to Pinterest, so pardon the post.

Does anyone know what this is called and/or the shape? Like, is this one long rectangle, a ruana, etc.? I really like it but can't seem to find one that's this big. I either want to buy it or possibly make it, but I can't figure out what the shape is.

Air quality estimates are the primary source of information regarding exposure to pollution, and their quality is important for public health, policy, and society. These estimates rely on the coverage of monitoring infrastructure across the nation.

Using September 2024 directory of active monitoring sites, we examine monitoring coverage in the United States. We find that more than half of the US counties are air quality monitoring deserts, lacking even a single monitoring station. Rural counties and those with higher indicators of social disadvantage are more likely to be air quality monitoring deserts.

The potential underrepresentation of certain areas due to limited infrastructure may result in gaps in data availability and hinder assessments of environmental or public health conditions.

The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, which began 82 years ago today, is now universally hailed as a bold act of Jewish resistance against the Nazis. But at the time, many Poles watched — or cheered — as the ghetto burned. The parallels with Gaza are hard to ignore.

From Carolina Raptor Center

Meet a very special bird - our 27,000th patient in our Raptor Hospital!

Patient #27000 is a baby Barred Owl that lost its nest during a wind storm. This baby is currently rooming with another young Barred Owl in our care, and we are hoping that we can renest both soon!

I've visited CRC and it's a great place!

If you're wondering why they are sporting some colored hairdos, that is a dye marker so the care team knows who's who.

If there's more than one animal kept together, this makes identifying them easy so their specific feeding and care instructions can be followed.
