Scientists at the University of Glasgow have developed a new modelling tool to improve protection for seabird species impacted by offshore wind farms.

The tool, published in Methods in Ecology and Evolution, is the first to accurately predict the space used by seabird colonies without relying on large amounts of satellite-tracking data, which is often unavailable.

Not sure if this is the right place, so if there's a better, please let me know, but I have a Lenovo think center that I acquired that I want to use as a simple home server, got an i5 6700 in it, may need some tweaks, but should be good. My problem is it came from a now defunct company and it wants my corporate email to download the profile. This is after I tried to factory reset it and delete all of the items. When I turn it on it asks for my corporate email, when I try to type iny Hotmail it says it's wrong and gives me the option for a security key USB. I've downloaded the win 11 installer onto a flash drive, but it jus goes straight to the corporate login request. I can get to bios, but admittedly I'm not sure what to do from there, as I'm not seein the proper options.

Any suggestions on how to flash this so I can use it for Plex, Valheim, Minecraft, and personal storage would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I have a pair of hdds imma use for the storage, am I other thinking this and just need to toss the original hdd?

I love how is more and more relevant and I giggle more than I should every single time it pops up in a thread lately (which is very often now). Death to the treat empire. At least it will be hilarious while it collapses.

The arrival of new plant pests and diseases is likely to severely damage UK trees and woodlands in the coming decades, new research shows.

The ash dieback epidemic prompted the government to assess all pests and diseases that could potentially enter the UK and affect our trees and agricultural crops.

In the new study, University of Exeter scientists assessed the 636 tree pests and diseases to work out the invasion probability and likely effects on tree growth.

Gardeners are being urged to resist mowing their entire lawns in efforts to support struggling butterfly populations.

Last year was one of the worst years on record for butterflies, according to the results of Butterfly Conservation's Big Butterfly Count.

Experts at the organisation say mixed lengths of grass are best for providing food and shelter, ideally with naturally occuring plants such as dandelions left to flower.

The government is failing to support the natural regeneration of trees in England owing to an overwhelming focus on planting, campaigners have said.

Recent figures show only 5% of Forestry Commission grants for woodland creation have been spent on the natural regeneration of trees, while the remaining 95% is spent on tree planting.

Natural regeneration is a process through which trees grow and reproduce in the wild without human interference by self-seeding, growing new stems from roots and natural seed colonisation.

Im Frühjahr 2025 erhielten Mitglieder des Weltkongresses der Uiguren (WUC) in München eine E-Mail. Wer auf den Link im Text klickte, ließ unbemerkt einen Trojaner auf sein Gerät, der Sicherheitseinstellungen aushebelt - und damit lokale Dateien, IP-Adressen und Identifikationsnummern an die Angreifer übermitteln konnte.

Das "Citizen Lab", eine renommierte Forschungsgruppe an der Universität Toronto, bestätigt: Der gesamte Angriff, einschließlich aller beobachteten Methoden und Taktiken, stimmt mit bekannten Attacken staatlicher chinesischer Hackergruppen überein.

If you’ve dealt with reactance, you surely know the two equations for computing inductive and capacitive reactance. But unless you’ve really dug into it, you may only know the formula the way a school kid knows how to find the area of a circle. You have to have a bit of higher math to figure out why the equation is what it is. The key to understanding this is simple. The reactance describes the voltage over the current through the element, just like resistance. The difference is that a resistance is just a single number. A reactance is a curve that gives you a different value at different frequencies. That’s because current and voltage are out of phase through a reactance, so it isn’t as easy as just dividing.

If you know calculus, the video will make a lot of sense. If you don’t know calculus, you might have a few moments of panic, but you can make it. If you think of frequency in Hertz as cycles per second, all the 2π you find in these equations convert Hz to “radian frequency” since one cycle per second is really 360 degrees of the sine wave in one second. There are 2π radians in a circle, so it makes sense.

We love developing intuition about things that seem fundamental but have a lot of depth to them that we usually ignore. If you need a refresher or a jump start on calculus, it isn’t as hard as you probably think. Engineers usually use vectors or imaginary numbers to deal with reactance, and we’ve talked about that too, if you want to learn more.
