If you truly love your partner, does a ring and a ceremony really do anything?

I know there are certain legal situations where an official marriage changes who has certain rights, but aren't those same rights available if you make other legally-official decisions E.G. a will or trusts, etc?

I'm generally curious why people get married beyond the "because I love them" when it costs so much money.

Looking for fishing games, but not the serious ones, more like Dredge, fishing in Stardew or Animal Crossing, stuff like that.

I heard Moonlight Bay wasn't good, unfortunately.

Summary

The Trump Store released $50 “Trump 2028” hats Thursday, sparking backlash online as Trump has repeatedly hinted at running for a third term.

“I have had more people ask me to have a third term,” Trump said on March 31, claiming the 2020 election was “totally rigged.”

Steve Bannon said he's exploring “five or six different alternatives” to enable a third run.

Critics on social media called it “insane” and a sign of “fascist” ambitions. Though barred by the 22nd Amendment, Trump could run again if it were overturned by Congress and the states. However, it would require a two-thirds vote of Congress and three-fourths vote of the states.

Honestly, I look at China's Video Game restrictions and I think its a good idea. I don't understand why the west isn't doing this. Probably something with the "democracy" and "human rights" bullshit that the oligarchs use to push the video games that damage our youth and contributes to brainrot, all so the rich can make a few extra bucks.

Like it or hate it, China's authoritarian approach in governing allowed them to pass the laws that benefits society, such as the law that restricts access to the video games that, if left unchecked, would've ruined so many kids attention spans, grades, and their futures.

I know some people are gonna claim that "kids need to have fun", but honestly, school-age children are at the prime age for learning how to suceed in life, not to waste time on unproductive things that is useless for the future.

But unfortunately, I don't think these types of laws would go anywhere. Such law would just get lobbied/bribed out of existence because it goes against the capitalist agenda, under this so-called "democracy" (these bourgeois democracies are really just oligarchies)

if youve ever been put off by the thoughts of having to install self-hosted web apps or manage a cloud VPS or a DIY server at home, then pikapods might be worth checking out

they make it very easy to get up and running. just sign up (they give you 5 euro free credit to get started), install the apps you want, then you will be charged a certain amount depending on how many apps youre using

theres about 90 apps to choose from but some notable ones would be Immich for photos, Joplin for note-taking, Blinko for something more like Google Keep or Pinterest, FreshRSS for managing RSS feeds, Wallabag for saving articles to read later, Navidrome for running your own music server, Nextcloud as an alternative to Google Drive or OneDrive

im running wallabag and freshRSS myself and theres not much to comment on really, they were both very straight forward to set up!

Since Trump took office in January, hurling insults and threatening devastating tariffs and U.S. drone strikes, Mexico has been seized by a nationalistic fervor.

It's kind of ironic to me that Linux is all for free and open source, but still uses a proprietary platform, and a horrible one at that. Before the fediverse, I'd understand, but now, there is no excuse whatsoever.

I understand that we can't just get up and leave everything proprietary behind all at once, since we have iPhones and Android phones. We all use proprietary software of some form, but I am of the mindset of using the least amount of proprietary possible.

I will ALWAYS look for FOSS first. I also want to make it as hard as possible for any corporation to track me. They'll probably still be able to track me, but I'm not going without a fight.

I could say the same about the Linux kernel using GitHub, but I understand how massive of an undertaking it would be to move the whole kernel to another platform. I'm sure there are other factors, too. Anyway, I just wanted to start a discussion and hear people's thoughts.
Thank you

From their own internal metrics, tech giants have long known what independent research now continuously validates: that the content that is most likely to go viral is that which induces strong feelings such as outrage and disgust, regardless of its underlying veracity. Moreover, they also know that such content is heavily engaged with and most profitable. Far from acting against false, harmful content, they placed profits above its staggering—and damaging—social impact to implicitly encourage it while downplaying the massive costs.

Social media titans embrace essentially the same hypocrisy the tobacco industry embodied when they feigned concern over harm reduction while covertly pushing their product ever more aggressively. With the reelection of Trump, our tech giants now no longer even pretend to care.

Engagement is their business model, and doubt about the harms they cause is their product. Tobacco executives, and their bought-off scientists, once proclaimed uncertainty over links between cigarettes and lung cancer. Zuckerberg has likewise testified to Congress, “The existing body of scientific work has not shown a causal link between using social media and young people having worse mental health, ” even while studies find self-harm, eating disorder and misogynistic material spreads on these platform unimpeded. This equivocation echoes protestations of tobacco companies that there was no causal evidence of smoking harms, even as incontrovertible evidence to the contrary rapidly amassed.

Before arriving in Russia on August 13, 2023, Gloss was travelling around Europe. On his Vkontakte page bio, he wrote: "I ran away from home (and) traveled the world. I hate fascism."

On April 4, 2024, he was killed, likely during a Russian offensive near Bakhmut, however, his burial in the U.S. did not take place until December 2024, Important Stories reports.
