French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday, February 14, urged calm and restraint after the fatal beating of a 23-year-old French youth aligned with the far-right on the sidelines of a conference by a hard-left lawmaker in the southeastern city of Lyon.

The death of the young man – identified only as Quentin – has intensified tensions between France's far-right and radical left who are both eyeing 2027 presidential elections.

He had been hospitalized in Lyon on Thursday after being attacked while providing what his supporters said was security for a protest against an appearance by hard-left MEP Rima Hassan at the Lyon branch of the Sciences Po university.

I generally find audiophiles to be a pretentious bunch, so this sounds about right.

In a particularly creative expression of anti-MAGA sentiment, a man who goes by the username “biz_dave” says he successfully trained crows to attack MAGA hats. As detailed in a series of posts on Threads, the self-proclaimed “big nerd” and “very part-time artist” stuck some tasty treats, including “peanuts, chicken scraps, mealworms, and dog kibble,” underneath a MAGA hat.

“Once they were coming regularly, it was only about three months to get them to the hat removal stage,” biz_dave wrote.

Switzerland is to hold a landmark vote on a right-wing party’s proposal to restrict the nation’s population to 10 million, amid divisions over immigration.

The proposal, put forward by the country’s largest political grouping the Swiss People’s Party (SVP), would require the government to act before the population – currently at 9.1 million – rises to the proposed 10 million upper limit.

If the vote, due to be held on June 14, is passed, the government would have to refuse entry to newcomers including asylum seekers and the families of foreign residents once the population reaches 9.5 million.

If the population hits 10 million, the government would be forced to end its free-movement agreement with the European Union (EU), which is Switzerland’s largest trading partner.

My father considers buying an Android TV box. Initially, I thought that's a bad choice as a mini pc has much greater capabilities and control.

However, he does have a point that Android TV boxes are cheaper (~60) and work with tv cable which most mini PCs don't have a connector for.

What are your thoughts on this?

We're excited to announce a major update: the Jellyseerr and Overseerr teams are officially merging into a single team called Seerr. This unification marks an important step forward as we bring our efforts together under one banner.

For users, this means one shared codebase combining all existing Overseerr functionalities with the latest Jellyseerr features, along with Jellyfin and Emby support, allowing us to deliver updates more efficiently and keep the project moving forward.

Please check how to migrate to Seerr in our migration guide and stay tuned for more updates on the project!

This Valentine's Day there is a lot of red on the screen for the X.Org Server with the code delta as a result of renaming of their main Git development branch and in the process selectively dropping questionable patches to the prior "master" codebase.

The effort noted in January of X.Org Server May Create A New Selective Git Branch With Hopes Of A New Release This Year has now been realized. As of a short time ago today, the "master" Git branch is ended with new X.Org Server development now on "main" and in the process starting off from a starting point of 2024 and then laying on the acceptable patches that were queued up over the past two years. See that aforelinked article for more details.

Today marks the first time I enter the study hall not as a student, but as a teacher.

For the coming semester, four groups of undergraduate students will learn to manage microbial cultures and to control microbial growth in foodstuffs under my watch. At the end of the course, hopefully, they can take this knowledge further to make the industry better :)
