Venezuela paid tribute to singer-songwriter, musician, poet and political activist Ali Primera with the traditional March of the Red Carnations on Monday, February 16. Marches were held in Caracas, as well as in other states of the country, in homage to the Venezuelan people’s musician on the occasion of 41 years of his passing.

The march, organised by the National Company of Music and the Culture Mission, coordinated by the Venezuelan Ministry of Culture, convened citizens and various social movements to honor the memory of the people’s musician.

The march in the capital started at 10:00 a.m. at the Casa de la Libertad y Cultural Ali Primera in the San Carlos Barracks. From this historic site, the participants began a march through the city center to Plaza Bolívar.

Distinctive features of the march include the participants carrying red carnations and the collective singing of Primera’s emblematic songs such as Techos de cartón, Tin Marín, La Patria es el Hombre and Los que mueren por la vida. Through these songs, culture promoters, authors, artists, and other participants reaffirm Primera’s commitment to social struggles and his condemnation of injustices, elements that defined his professional career.

The composer’s work remains a fundamental pillar of Venezuelan culture, uniting various generations through his revolutionary legacy.

**From classrooms to “Canción Necesaria”**Ely Rafael Primera Rossell, born in Coro, Falcón state, on October 31, 1941, was nicknamed by his relatives as “Alí” for the Arab origin of his grandparents. Despite losing his father, Antonio Primera, in an accident when he was just three years old, Alí forged a path of resilience with his mother, Carmen Adela Rossell.

In 1960, Primera’s arrival in Caracas marked the beginning of his academic and political training. After graduating from Caracas High School, he entered the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) in 1964 to study Chemistry. It was in the university corridors that his voice began to resonate, transforming what he began as a hobby into his life mission. Songs such as Humanidad and No basta rezar became his first protest anthems.

His education continued in Europe between 1969 and 1973, where he studied Petroleum Technology thanks to a scholarship from the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV). However, when he returned to Venezuela, his professional title was left in the background. He found his true vocation in music and political activism.

Alí Primera’s music made him a reference of the Latin American protest music genre “Canción Necesaria.” With 18 record productions, he consolidated a style that mixed poetry with social denunciation.

Primera participated in numerous music festivals in Latin America and performed on several occasions in the Aula Magna of the UCV. He also took his message to where the struggle was: factories, high schools, unions, and working-class neighbourhoods. Politically, after his time in the PCV, he supported the cause of José Vicente Rangel in the Movement towards Socialism (MAS) party during the 1973 electoral campaign.

Venezuela: March of the Red Carnations Commemorates 40th Anniversary of Musician Alí Primera’s Passing

Passing and legacyOn February 16, 1985, Alí Primera lost his life in a car accident on the Valle-Coche Highway in Caracas when he was returning from a recording. However, his death did not silence his work. Decades after his passing, the songs of Ali Primera continue to show that his songs were not simply music, they are the reflection of the feelings and hopes of the majorities in Latin America.

To honor Primera’s legacy, Falcón state will hold the March of the Red Carnations on Sunday, February 22. This march in Punto Fijo will depart at 10:00 a.m. from the Alí Primera House Museum, in Paraguaná, following the historic route to the Santa Elena Cemetery where the musician is buried.

The Palestinian Authority once again provoked the indignation of the Palestinian grassroots on Sunday, February 15, after its “preventive” security forces killed two Palestinian children in an ambush that was carried out to arrest their father in Tamoun town in the northern West Bank governorate of Tubas.

The murdered children were identified as Ali Samara (14), who died immediately, and his four-year-old sister Ronza Samara, who succumbed to her injuries after being transferred to a hospital.

Their father Samer Samara, who, according to local media outlets, was wanted by the Israeli occupation, was injured in the deadly attack, before he was arrested by the PA’s forces.

An audio recording attributed to Yazan Samara, another son of Samer, in which he explained the circumstances of the incident, circulated online. The grief-stricken son said that he was with his family in the car, when the preventive forces and a special force affiliated with the Palestinian Authority encircled the vehicle and opened fire at them.

“They riddled the car with bullets. They were carrying rifles usually used by the Israeli Occupation Forces and they were all wearing masks. My brother was martyred in front of me, while my father was shot in his legs before being arrested,” Samer’s surviving son said.

Some media outlets reported that Samer’s wife and other two daughters, were also traveling in the same car at the time of the attack, but they somehow survived.

Crowds of Palestinians gathered in front of the Turkish hospital in Tubas, where the injured members of the Samara family were reportedly admitted, to protest against the PA’s attack.

The PA’s Preventive Security Services claim responsibility for the attack

For many, the security services affiliated with the PA have always sought to deny its responsibility for similar crimes, and to provide misleading information to the public regarding their details.

However, the survival of some members of the Samara family, who were eyewitnesses of the incident may have pushed the involved security services to claim full responsibility for the attack.

On Monday, February 16, the Palestinian Preventive Services (PSS) issued a statement announcing that the institution bears “the national, moral and legal responsibility” for the attack “in all its security, humanitarian and legal dimensions” and “in a way that guarantees the principles of transparency and accountability, and bolsters civil and social peace”.

Palestinian factions condemn the assault

Palestinian factions reacted to the tragic incident by releasing separate statements, denouncing the lethal operation.

Hamas “held the PA’s leadership accountable for the repercussions of its repressive policies, which threatens the national fabric.”

Meanwhile, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) branded the incident as “a distressing and dangerous event that exceeds national and social norms, and constitutes a harm to the daily sacrifices” of the Palestinian people in confrontation with the occupation.

The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) called on the PA to hold everybody, who gave orders to “commit the crime” accountable, and prosecute them.

Whereas, the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC) described the onslaught as “a heinous crime, which occurred as a result of an unacceptable policy of prosecution against the resistance fighters and the mujahideen in the West Bank in order to appease the Zionist enemy.”

The Palestinian National Initiative demanded that the PA open an immediate investigation and punish all those “who caused the death of the two innocent children”.

Peoples Dispatch also received a version of a statement issued by the Palestinian Popular Conference (also known as 14 Million), in which it accused the PA of “offering the blood of the Palestinian people” as “credentials” to “external agencies”.

The conference also said that the repetition of such violations affirms the failure of the PA’s security services in protecting the Palestinian people, which also converts them into militias that act above the law.

The movement further demanded the following:

The immediate and unconditional release of Samer Samara.Revealing the identity of those found complicit in the shooting order, and that they be brought to public trial. The resignation of the Palestinian Ministry of Interior. The dismissal of the head of the Preventive Security Services.Restructuring all the PA’s security apparatus from scratch and rectifying its doctrine, except for the police services, which should remain operating to protect and serve the citizens.

The grave crime constitutes an assault on the struggle of the Palestinian people against the Israeli occupation, says Omar Assaf

Political activist, freedom fighter and former prisoner in Israeli jails, Omar Assaf, considered the incident “an assault on the Palestinian people as a whole, and on their struggle and resistance against the Israeli occupation.” He also branded it “a blatant assault against children”.

From Assaf’s point of view the event reflects “the political bankruptcy which the officials in the PA have reached, because the main responsibility for what happened lies with the political leaders of the PA. Therefore, these leaders should be brought to trial for this grave crime.”

“It also reflects the overarching nature of the PA’s security services, which function with an entrenched mentality that [US security coordinator for Israel-Palestinian Authority] Keith W. Dayton had established,” he added.

Assaf warned that the PA’s actions threaten Palestinian civil peace at a time when Palestinians are in dire need of enhancing their unity amid the ongoing crimes of the Israeli occupation, especially after Israel’s endorsement of new annexation measures in the occupied West Bank.

New polling demonstrates that Americans, by a two-to-one margin, think President Donald Trump is a racist. The polling comes just weeks after Trump re-posted a video depicting former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as apes — a centuries-old racist trope against Black people — on his personal Truth Social account. An Economist/YouGov poll published Tuesday…

> 📹 Palestinians sculpted the words ‘welcome Ramadan’ in Arabic into the sand on the beach in Deir al-Balah in Gaza on Tuesday evening, preparing for the holy month to begin.

Palestinian artist Yazeed Abu Jarad said that people in Gaza are “doing well,” but fear the return of the war.

Since the ceasefire in October, Israeli forces have committed more than 1,600 violations, killing at least 600 Palestinians in Gaza.

This is not directly selfhosting but related. I have 2 Proxmox hosts which both support Intel AMT which is a remote control tool similar to supermicro IPMI, supporting KVM, power cycles and more. I wanted it to be able to repair stuff in case I can't reach the servers via ui/ssh.

I set it up and it worked fine for months. I could access both on ip.address:16992.

Lately, one of them started disappearing after days or weeks. Rebooting brings it back, but it's a running server and I don't want to reboot it so often. The server is working fine otherwise.

Does anyone know that problem? It's hard to pin down since it can't be seen on the host linux (port not shown in netstat for example).

About 2 weeks ago there was a disturbing post on the gaming comm: "Forgive me for I have reinstalled Overwatch". Now, while the poster only said an additional "I'm sorry." (I forgive you), several commenters had the absolute audacity to post things like the cool new jetpack cat character, "at least it's not League", and "Overwatch is a softcore pornography game". I shudder just remembering the excuses.

Well, it worked, because I'm ashamed to admit that I relapsed and got into Overwatch again. I... I knew the deal was sealed the moment I could link my old account and get all my old skins back from a decade ago. Not only that, but I tried playing with a controller, and it was awkward, but as soon as I switched to keyboard something snapped and my muscle memory came flooding back. I was playing like I never left. The old Symmetra and Torb might be gone, but damn can you still troll the shit out of people on casual play with DVA and Moira. And there are so many new characters to learn.

I had perfectly good games purchased from steam recently that are now collecting virtual dust. Sonic Racing? I played two cups with NPCs before leaving. Ball x Pit? Loved it, but I'm never going to 100% it now. 150+ hour addiction to Megabonk? I can't even remember the old metas, much less whatever the new abomination strat is. I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't even remember Noelle's little pixelated face. (I will take personal responsibility for one personal failing: buying when I could have pirated, but that's an entirely different addiction, let's stay focused here people.)

I even bought a bundle of Sherlock Holmes games this year to try and get my brain to work properly again after severe work related burnout. Now my job can expect mediocre work for the same stagnant mediocre pay several dollars above state minimum wage that I've received for the last several years. Does my smol bean mega corporation deserve such a cruel long term punishment for one wittle project mismanagement that lead to multiple people quitting and being fired while upper management ended up mostly unscathed? I think deep down you know the answer.

And most lately, I've committed basically the same unforgivable sin as Eve did: I lead my they/them Adam equivalent partner to play Overwatch. "Yes honey, you can still be a Reaper main and spew edgelord character lines. It's perfectly normal." Never mind all the billionaire pedo stuff happening right now, I'M THE ONE NORMALIZING HELL. Lord, have Mercy on us... fuck SHIT not that Mercy, just regular mercy. Now we do quick play matches together, and I can't even complain about DPS not doing enough damage anymore. S-sometimes I even... leave my tank and support responsibilities and join the DPS. How do I fucking live with myself now??

Pray for us not to fall even further and start playing competitive, or we'll truly be past the point of no return. Overwatch: Not even once.

I realized I don't yet have enough castle doodles to have a semi-usable set of geomorphs.

So that's why I've been making castle stuff.
