Tu avión acaba de aterrizar en el aeropuerto de Porto Santo por a saber qué problema. Por los altavoces solamente se escucharon balbuceos y nadie que estuviese contigo en el avión se enteró. El personal te apresura a salir del avión y, una vez en la puerta de embarque, encuentras a una agradable empleada para preguntarle dónde puedes coger el siguiente avión para llegar a tu destino. Anabela (nombre que lees en la placa de su chaqueta), te da las indicaciones. Vas caminando, sin prisa, e impulsado por las ganas que tienes de ver a tu hijo, entras en una colorida tienda y le compras un regalo. Continúas tu rumbo y ves una cara que te resulta familiar. Anabela está ahí, con la característica sonrisa de formación profesional. Miras al frente, sientes un poco de vergüenza al pensar que te has despistado y que has cogido la dirección equivocada. Así que aceleras el paso y vuelves a seguir sus instrucciones, pero cada vez que lo haces vuelves al mismo punto, cruzando de nuevo con Anabela y con la extraña sensación de que el número de personas a tu alrededor se reduce. De pronto las pantallas anunciando los vuelos son sustituidas por avisos de actualización a Windows 11 y tras mirar la hora en tu reloj y ver sorprendido que lo que parecieron minutos han sido horas, te das cuenta de que estás completamente a solas con Anabela. Ves cómo ella se acerca a ti, desabotonándose la camisa mientras dice: “Por fin podemos tener algo de intimidad”. Sus habilidosos dedos van dejando ver poco a poco su busto tras el sujetador y comienzas a oír unos gritos según llega a la tripa a comienzas a ver, con incredulidad, una cara rolliza. “¿Mi bebé tiene hambre?”, pregunta Anabela, mientras acaricia suavemente uno de los mofletes que sobresalen de su abdomen. ¿Qué haces? ¿Quizá compraste algo en la tienda que podría ayudarte?

Danish General Strike (1998)

On this day in 1998, more than 500,000 Danish workers, one fifth of the entire workforce, walked off the job in a general strike, demanding a 35-hour work-week, an extra week of paid holiday, and a 6% wage increase. The strike action came after a big economic boom in Denmark that left workers feeling left out from the increased profits of their employers.

The strike affected a wide variety of industries, from schools to manufacturing to airports to food and petrol stations. Workers in Sweden exhibited solidarity by refusing to load planes heading for Denmark.

May Day marked the fifth day of the strike, and a gigantic demonstration of more than 500,000 people took place in Copenhagen. The government intervened, ordering everyone back to work on May 11th and announcing that any strikes by the affected workers before March 2000 would be illegal.

A compromise deal was accepted by union leadership, and the majority of strikers returned to work, however some spontaneous walk-outs occurred in the following days - in 96 workplaces, 6,200 workers walked out for a one-day strike. Baggage handlers at Copenhagen International Airport stopped making their contributions to the Social Democratic Party, which led the government throughout the labor action.
