Louis P. Bénézet's map of "Europe As It Should Be" (1918), depicting nations based on ethnic and linguistic criteria. Bénézet's book The World War and What was Behind It (1918) blamed the war on German aggression combined with perceived threats to the traditional social order from radicals and ethnic nationalists.

The event took place in the large auditorium of Casa del Maestro in downtown Lima, amidst chants condemning US President Donald Trump and impassioned demands that he let Cubans live in peace.

Speakers agreed that, should the possibility of military aggression, suggested by various sources, materialize, Cuba will defend itself to the bitter end.

The firm condemnation of the US escalation against the Pearl of the Caribbean was accompanied by songs from the two countries, united by history.

Rita Fernandez, representative of the Association of Cuban Residents in Peru “Raices Mambisas,” denounced Washington’s escalation as an attempt to strangle Cuba’s economy, causing suffering for its people.

He denied that his country poses a threat to the United States, as Trump alleges, and emphasized that “we are a cooperative and supportive people” willing to engage in dialogue with that country without impositions.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Cabrera, representative of the Peruvian Coordinating Committee for Solidarity with Cuba, called for Latin American unity in defending Cuba against the illegal measures imposed by the United States against the island and condemned Washington’s new measures and threats of military aggression.

The U.S. is in the grips of a historic measles surge, with more than 3,000 measles cases reported in 45 states across the country since the start of 2025. So far, two unvaccinated children have died from the disease. At least 920 people have been infected in South Carolina, and a similar number in Texas. In both states, nearly all infected individuals were unvaccinated.

Now Dr. Mehmet Oz, administrator to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, is urging Americans to get the measles vaccine as the country is on the brink of losing its measles elimination status.

“Take the vaccine, please. We have a solution for our problem,” Oz said on CNN’s State of Union on Sunday. “Not all illnesses are equally dangerous, and not all people are equally susceptible to those illnesses. But measles is one you should get your vaccine [for],” Oz said.

Herzog

Australia’s government has laid out the red carpet for genocide-inciting Israeli president Isaac Herzog. And its police have met mass protests against the visit with violence. Herzog’s ex-adviser Eylon Levy, meanwhile, prepared for the trip by dehumanising Palestinians.

Thousands oppose Herzog’s visit, and Levy spreads hatred

Thousands of anti-genocide protesters in Australia hit the streets on Monday 9 February. But police got special permission to crack down on dissent. And they used pepper spray, made dozens of arrests, and even threw punches.

Numerous MPs had previously called on the government to cancel the divisive visit, promising to join the protests. The Jewish Council of Australia, meanwhile, had also asked in an open letter for the cancellation of the invitation. Over 1,000 academics and community leaders from Australia’s Jewish community had signed.

Thanks to your support, our full-page ad is in today’s Sydney Morning Herald and The Age. Over 1,000 Jews and thousands of allies have signed our open letter to say that Israeli President Isaac Herzog is not welcome here.

As usual, though, Levy struggled to hide his disdain for the people suffering or opposing Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Dehumanisation has played a key role in the extermination campaign. And Levy continued this tradition by sharing an animation picturing a toad wearing a Keffiyeh, saying it was a “poisonous invasive species”:

Is Israel a poisonous invasive state? Hours ahead of Herzog's visit to Australia, his spokesman (2021-2023) has promoted the visit by posting an animation depicting Palestinians as cane toads, calling them a "poisonous invasive species". https://t.co/ubky81NXDJ

— WikiLeaks (@wikileaks) February 8, 2026

Levy has also tried to compare UN special rapporteur Francesca Albanese with Hamas due to her opposition to genocide:

What's the difference between Hamas and UN official @FranceskAlbs at this point?

🔎 Can you spot the difference? Let me know in the comments. pic.twitter.com/qtGuV3Yyhi

Australia’s mass protests

Thousands of people thought it was important to show their opposition to Herzog’s visit considering his role in inciting genocide. At the start of Israel’s campaign of mass murder in occupied Gaza, which followed the Hamas attack on 7 October 2023, Herzog had said:

it’s an entire nation out there that is responsible. It is not true, this rhetoric about civilians who were not aware and not involved. It is absolutely not true.

A UN Human Rights Council report in 2025 found that Herzog and others had:

incited the commission of genocide

This is why many Australians called for Herzog’s arrest.

As Amnesty International said:

Welcoming President Herzog as an official guest undermines Australia’s commitment to accountability and justice.

Australia is hosting Isaac Herzog, and he’s not coming alone.

His rhetoric blaming “an entire nation” was cited by the International Court of Justice when assessing the risk of genocide.

In Sydney, authorities mobilised 3,000 police officers against protesters. A local court, meanwhile, rejected a challenge to protest restrictions.

Videos have emerged showing apparent police violence against some protesters:

Herzog claimed people opposing his visit were seeking to “undermine and delegitimise” the state of Israel’s ‘right to exist‘. Francesca Albanese has previously clarified that no state has a right to exist under international law, but that people do:

Herzog must face accountability for his genocide incitement. Other genocide-inciters and war criminals from Israel (and elsewhere) should too. For that to happen, governments must stop normalising horrific crimes by inviting them on state visits. And that’s what thousands of Australians took to the streets to demand.

I used my battle cards and my pawn box for the first time yesterday. When you use the battle cards, do you put them back laying down in the box?

I anticipated they would stand up like the mail order recipe cards from the days of yore.

And do you put the pawns back into their sheets? Or punch out everything and pile them in the box?

In Hunan Province, central China, a warm start to the day is becoming part of everyday wellbeing. Public services are being extended into daily life through practical, people-centered initiatives. Across several cities and counties, community breakfast support programs provide free or low-cost morning meals for sanitation workers, delivery riders, and elderly people living alone.

In Changsha county of Changsha city, delivery workers can pick up a hot breakfast before starting long shifts. In Xinhuang county of Huaihua city, free breakfast services for sanitation workers have become a regular part of community support. These small-scale but steady services help ease daily pressures and reflect a more caring approach to urban governance.

By turning simple needs into accessible public services, Hunan is making everyday wellbeing more visible and more reachable. (Photos via VCG)

The Cuban Foreign Ministry reciprocated with a simple “Thank you,” echoing the words of the island’s ambassador to Mexico, Eugenio Martinez.

The diplomat said: “Our sincere and profound gratitude to the Government of Mexico, its people, and its President for the material aid sent to the Cuban people.”

The day before, the ships Papaloapan and Isla Holbox set sail from the port of Veracruz with the aid that “will help alleviate the consequences of the cruel economic war against Cuba,” the ambassador said.

In a statement, the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs detailed that the Papaloapan is transporting essential food items, including liquid milk, meat products, cookies, beans, rice, tuna in water, sardines, and vegetable oil, as well as personal hygiene products, with a cargo of approximately 536 tons.

Meanwhile, the Isla Holbox is carrying just over 277 tons of powdered milk.

The Ministry announced that both shipments are expected to arrive at their destination in four days, and that more than 1,500 tons of powdered milk and beans remain to be shipped.

Canada-based Windscribe, a VPN provider, just said that one of its European servers has been allegedly seized by Dutch authorities without a warrant.

According to the company’s post on X, law enforcement said that they will return it to the service provider after they “fully analyze it.”

It’s unclear why law enforcement impounded just a single rack from Windscribe’s cabinet, but the VPN provider said that it only uses RAM disk servers, meaning anyone who would look through the installed SSDs would only find a stock Ubuntu install on it, so the servers shouldn't hold any trackable data.

An Irish man has spent five months in US Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention and faces deportation despite having a valid work permit and no criminal record.

Seamus Culleton was a “model immigrant” who had become the victim of a capricious and inept system, said his lawyer, Ogor Winnie Okoye.

After being held in ICE facilities near Boston and in Buffalo, New York, he was flown to a facility in El Paso, Texas, where he is sharing a cell with more than 70 men. Culleton said the detention centre was cold, damp and squalid and there were fights over insufficient food – “like a concentration camp, absolute hell”, he told the Irish Times, which first reported the story on Monday.
