My previous pile of wood has reached its maximum height I think:

On @redlemace@lemmy.world's advice, I stacked the new pile in a criss-cross pattern. It certainly is more compact and more stable, but also finding adequately-sized logs to make the pile grow straight is a somewhat OCD exercise that I don't care that much for.

Also, my pile doesn't look as nice as in other people's photos 🙂 But hey, it's functional.

I'm watching the Canada v Czech game now and it's amazing but a lot is going over my head. I'm missing a lot of plays cos it's too elite. Any tips for trying to follow it?

I am running a defederated local Matrix server, and I need to set up calls. From what I can tell, the "legacy" calls require a STUN and TURN server, and the new MatrixRTC standard seems to require them as well for Livekit to work. However, I do not want to expose anything out to the public internet, as I want everything to be behind NAT for local access only (all of the clients for the server will also be behind the NATted network). I also have Tailscale running on my servers, and it would be useful if I would be able to connect to the TURN server even when not in the network. Is there a way to get STUN/TURN to work in this situation? It seems that all the servers expect to have public network access.

When running

rsync -Paz /home/sbird "/run/media/sbird/My Passport/sbird"

As told by someone, I run into a ran out of storage error midway. Why is this? My disk usage is about 385 GiB for my home folder, and there is around 780 GiB of space in the external SSD (which already has stuff like photos and documents). Does rsync make doubly copies of it or something? That would be kind of silly. Or is it some other issue?

Note that the SSD is from a reputable brand (Western Digital) so it is unlikely that it is reporting a fake amount of storage.

EDIT: Wait, is it because my laptop SSD is BTRFS and the external SSD is exFAT? Could that be the issue? That would be kind of weird, why would files become so much more bigger with the external SSD?

New anti-bot rules (lemmy.world)
submitted 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) by lawrence@lemmy.world to c/comicstrips@lemmy.world

Hi everyone,

I think it has become clear that many bot accounts are swarming the communities. Sometimes we can’t be sure whether a specific account is a bot, but there are some clues. I will not post the clues here since they could be used by bot creators to bypass the rules.

Lemmy (the software) currently doesn’t have tools to automate moderation, so everything has to be moderated manually.

That said, I will be adding a few anti-bot rules to the /c/comicstrips community:

  • A limit of two posts per person per day.
  • Bots are not allowed. There will be heavy moderation of suspected bot accounts. If an account is identified as a bot, its posts will be deleted and it will receive a permanent ban.
  • Banned users will have their posts removed.

And thank you to everyone in the community who reports possible spammers and bots. It helps a lot.

Here is the previous post that I fixed before, which contains a few discussions about this subject: https://lemmy.world/post/42127013

Do you have any comments or suggestions? I’m listening.

(This is not the future that Asimov expected.)

Anybody have any games they really liked on a first play through and then fell out of love with it later on? I'm going through it right now with the city builder game Workers and Resources. I've got 26 hours in it on Steam. Most of those hours came years ago when I first tried the game. I had a good grasp of it then naturally hopped off it when something else caught my eye. Every time I try it now I just can't get past how janky it is. It truly is Eurojank the city builder game.

My biggest issue is relearning the build order. Set up a village, import some power, setup water, build a bus depot. I think I've got all the boxes checked off for what I'm supposed to do but nothing happens. Busses take no workers to the coal plant. Everything is still on warning that I'm missing resources. Then I get into the weeds and can't find what's wrong. I give up. This is the last few times I tried the game. I'm prone to jumping off a game if it's too complex but knowing I used to have this one down and it's all different now has me really souring on it.

That's the shame of it. I know I liked the game at one point but there's been too much time between first seriously getting to know the game and it's systems and now. It's the probably the only city builder I've ever played that's not a pick up and play type game. This is my genre of choice going back to SC2000. This one stings.

Anybody else have anything like this happen to them?
