Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a close ally of Trump, finds herself at odds with his administration after it denied her state's request for federal disaster aid following a series of deadly storms last month.

Trump has floated the idea of eliminating the Federal Emergency Management Agency and pushing states to potentially fend for themselves in the wake of natural disasters. He’s already denied disaster aid requests from Washington and North Carolina — states led by Democratic governors — and he suggested withholding aid from Democrat-led California unless it institutes a restrictive voter law.

But the denial of disaster aid to Arkansas, a state he won with 64% of the vote in last year’s presidential election, appears to offer fresh evidence that he intends to follow through on his efforts to gut FEMA — even if it potentially harms some of his fiercest supporters.

In the recent Canadian federal election, so many people were running for election to Parliament in one constituency, there had to be a special ballot to fit all 91 names.

This happened in Carleton, where Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre was running for re-election. He lost.

In its two-page order, the court said it was acting to protect public confidence in Wisconsin courts during the criminal proceedings against Dugan. The order noted that the court was acting on its own initiative and was not responding to a request from anyone. Liberal justices control the court 4-3.

“It is ordered ... that Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah C. Dugan is temporarily prohibited from exercising the powers of a circuit court judge in the state of Wisconsin, effective the date of this order and until further order of the court,” the justices wrote.

In a post on the social platform X, Hegseth called the “Women, Peace & Security” program at the Defense Department “a UNITED NATIONS program pushed by feminists and left-wing activists. Politicians fawn over it; troops HATE it.”

It was, in fact, bipartisan legislation that Trump signed into law in 2017 that recognized the role women have in achieving security goals, especially overseas when their male counterparts may not be able to question or have direct access to women for cultural or religious reasons.

Last year, the Environmental Protection Agency set the first federal drinking water limits for PFAS, or perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, finding they increased the risk of cardiovascular disease, certain cancers and babies being born with low birth weight.

In a decision with consequences for tens of millions of Americans, the Trump administration is expected to soon say whether it intends to stand by those strict standards and defend the limits against a water utility industry challenge in federal court.

I'm a 25 yo British guy. I landed my first job as a dev in 2022 for a consultancy with a 1 year international placement, it was good but a few months after returning, the whole cohort was laid off due to corporate politics between the offices in the two countries. After 7 months of searching, I got my second job working for a small pensions fintech startup, it was fine but I didn't find it all that fulfilling. After 9 months of working there, the CEO pulled me into a meeting and said they'd made a mistake hiring me and they needed a more senior developer who could help steer the company from a business perspective too, so I was once again laid off.

That was in January, since then I've had 2 interviews, both of which have gone nowhere. The vibe of every position that's matched my CV has basically been the same sort of work- pretty mundane web dev roles and I can see myself being pulled into a cycle of mundane work then being laid off. I've wanted to be a developer for as long as I can remember, I started writing code when I was 12, studied CS throughout school so I could go to uni and do it for my degree - but now, I feel so disillusioned with the whole industry, where do I go from here? Does it get better? How do I find a job that actually feels fulfilling?

Sorry for the ramble, it's 4am and I just happened to stumble across this community while scrolling. Thought it might be worth an ask.

TLDR; been laid off twice in about 2 and a half years, feeling pretty disillusioned with everything, where do I go from here?

The recall covers certain Cadillac Escalades and Escalade ESVs; Chevrolet Silverado 1500s, Suburbans and Tahoes; as well as GMC Sierra 1500s, Yukons and Yukon XLs between model years 2021 and 2024.

According to recall documents published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these vehicles share a gas engine that may have connecting rod or crankshaft component problems, due to supplier manufacturing or quality issues. This can lead to engine damage, and potentially failure, while driving — increasing crash risks.

Prior to failure, NHSTA documents warn, impacted drivers may be alerted of these issues through loud knocking or banging noises, the check engine light turning on and/or other driving performance issues, such as reduced propulsion.

I wanted to try inverse clouds with black instead of white. It really muted the blue color and darkened them more than I expected. I don’t think they look bad but I’m kinda surprised at how much attention they are getting from people I show them to.

I propose that we coordinate a mass mailing campaign of letters to the white house telling trump that we do not approve and that he can go fuck himself. Obviously he doesn't actually receive these letters, but a big surge of complaint letters could get news coverage and he hates negative news. It will also undermine the delusions he's trying to promote that the low approval rating is only due to biased pollsters.

A bill to ban the use of the mineral in public water passed the Florida House 88-27. It now awaits Gov. Ron DeSantis' signature.

Lawmakers in Florida gave final passage to a bill to ban fluoride in public water systems Tuesday, with the state House voting 88-27.

SB 700, also known as the Florida Farm Bill, doesn't mention the word "fluoride," but it would effectively ban the chemical compound by preventing "the use of certain additives in a water system." The bill awaits Gov. Ron DeSantis’ signature.

If DeSantis, a Republican, signs the bill, Florida will become the second state to ban fluoride from water supplies.

Saw this at the supermarket right next to a $24 magazine called "ChatGPT: Start your own business!"

Things are getting bleak. Hopefully in the future the only time we see shit like this is in history books showing propaganda during the fall of capitalism
