Yeah I don't really buy arguments like this. When quilting was invented there was literally not much else to do, people had rare contact with a small number of other people, and limited means to stimulate themselves or pass the time. What's autistic is still preferring these ornate, elaborate, complex hobbies over all the inane ways people pass the time these days. Most quilters from back in the day probably would have been perfectly happy to sit in Starbucks or walk around the mall or scroll insta or whatever the fuck normal people actually do with their time, they just didn't have the option.
