I feel sorry for them. But then again, this is what they want.

  • They oppose making parking expensive.

  • They oppose bus lanes

  • They oppose bike lanes.

  • They oppose trains

  • They oppose train stations.

  • They oppose congestion pricing.

They oppose any measure that might reduce car dependency.

The thing you have to understand is that unlike American major cities Toronto actually has not a ton of smaller freeways.

The other thing to understand is that the 401 is not just traffic in Toronto, it's also the major connecting highway for about 50 percent of the province. So it's not just local traffic. Anyone trying to get to places opposite Toronto have to take this highway.

The province built a new Highway called 407 in order to help traffic bypass the city. Then the provincial conservative government sold it for a song so they could say they balanced the books for 1 year. It's now the most expensive toll route in the world.

Shit fucking sucks.
