Big difference between Linux and Windows: Linux permissions are per-process, while Windows permissions are per-user. This is why Windows needs Defender in the first place (in addition to being the big target).
If you're not using root all the time, risks are very low.
We've just had a string of very public privesc exploits, and there are plenty of non public ones as well, so running as non-root doesn't necessarily mean much.
Difference: linux fix in a week, microsoft fix "when they feel like".

an adversary could just get the root password with a keylogger.
On wayland you have keyloggers?
You do not need admin privs to log keystrokes on xorg. I am 99% sure this is true in wayland too.
"Security through obscurity" is not real security.
