Is this project free and open source? If not, will it be in the future? If so, could the source code be publicly released on Github or Gitlab at some point? Finally, do you have plans to support lemmy?

Multiple announcements have stated that Lemmy support is in the pipeline, slated for next month.

As to the first question, if I had to guess, the answer is probably no. Just judging by the fact that they haven't posted a public repository yet.
