[-] UraniumBlazer@lemm.ee 17 points 7 months ago

I'm so curious what the tankies have to say about this.

[-] idk837384@thelemmy.club 13 points 7 months ago

They probably would spontaneously combust because they couldn't decide between denying the Holocaust or the Uyghur genocide

[-] UraniumBlazer@lemm.ee 6 points 7 months ago

No, uhm well... China is obviously very nicely "civilizing" the savage Muslims! /s

[-] manucode@infosec.pub 6 points 7 months ago

What about the NSA, maybe?

[-] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 16 points 7 months ago

Why not both?

When you hate liberalism so much that the Chinese Communist Party starts looking pretty good.

[-] manucode@infosec.pub 31 points 7 months ago

AfD probably approves of their treatment of Muslim minorities

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 12 points 7 months ago

What, no "Spy for Israel"?

Or is that redundant since the German government already gives the Netanyahu regime everything it wants including a lot of genocide denial gaslighting?

[-] manucode@infosec.pub 33 points 7 months ago

As far as I'm aware, no AfD politician has yet been caught working for the Mossad.
That might just be a question of time though. Or Mossad agents might be more effective at recruiting the more intelligent AfD members and thereby avoid discovery.
Antisemitism being widespread within the AfD could complicate things further though money might prevail here.

Antisemitism being widespread within the AfD could complicate things further

Not necessarily. There's tons of antisemitism in ~~The American Fascist Party~~ the GOP, but they're 100% on the side of the Israeli government.

In fact, equating Judaism and the Israeli government is arguably a kind of antisemitism itself, since many Jewish people resent being automatically assumed to support the Netanyahu government's atrocities or even Zionism in general.

[-] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

Not all antisemites realized they could hide behind support for Israel...

Not necessarily. There's tons of antisemitism in ~~The American Fascist Party~~ the GOP, but they're 100% on the side of the Israeli government.

The conservative brain works in mysterious ways. Some support Israel because of some end-times prophecy nonsense, some think that every Jew that moves to Israel is one less Jew in their way. Others just decided they hate Muslims more than Jew.

In fact, equating Judaism and the Israeli government is arguably a kind of antisemitism itself

That's a different thing. You can oppose Israel without being an antisemite, but it's trickier to explain how you can be an antisemite without opposing Israel. Hating all Jews while somehow militarily supporting those Jews. While it can be explained (see above) you have to admit it is rather counterintuitive.

And anyway I would not expect GOP dynamics to easily translate to the AFD.

It's easy to explain: it's raw, unadulterated primate tribalism.

Multiple studies have shown how tribal psychology overrides pesky things like logic or coherent, and it's terrifying how much people will excuse or rationalize in order to remain in good standing with their tribe.

Demagogues know this very well, as one of the first things they do is force their followers to hold contradictory principles as a kind of shibboleth. It softens their followers up for what's to come.

[-] manucode@infosec.pub 2 points 7 months ago

I didn't want to say that not supporting Israel is antisemitic or that antisemites can't support Israel. I just wanted to say that, on average, antisemites are probably harder to recruit for the Mossad than others.

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago

That's very true. I didn't actually mean to accuse YOU specifically of that form of antisemitism BTW, in case there's any doubt 🙂

[-] Axiochus@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

I think you should have phrased this as "what about".

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

Nah, it was a legitimate question, since it would be a logical third button given the context.

A whataboutism would be if I tried to defend the AFD by deflecting to their opponent's relationship with Israel or something along those lines rather than add it to the transgressions of the far right as I was doing.

[-] Axiochus@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

Hmm. Fair enough!

Waiting for the Iran spies to show up. Just to cement the 21 century version of Germany, Japan and Italy and hope they can 196.

I'm waiting to see what the equivalent of the multiracial Brazilian Integralists will be.

Merkel had made it clear that internal NATO surveillance should not be too obvious; "rogue states" do not have to abide by this, of course.
