What are the fullers for? Less material/weight? Aesthetics? Deathlyness? Sturdyness or something like that?
I think it's mostly for weight reduction (with minimal loss of strength), although there could also be aesthetic considerations in some cases
It's weird that in RPGs, arming swords and spears kinda disappeared for ages and longswords were the default melee weapon
