-=Fluffy-jenga=-

The Fuzzies arrived and we've played 5-6 games so far.

It's abstract, fun, accessible and is made by CMYK the same designers as Wavelength, Quacks and the upcoming Lacuna(which looks great too).

A cute tower of fuzzy balls is compressed together and on each turn a player must extract a ball(fuzzy) and place it anywhere higher than it last was.

Can use fingers or the included plastic tweezers. You can turn the whole tower before starting, but your bum can never leave the seat you are in.

Extra difficulty cards are collected for each fuzzy that falls to table. If 10 fall, game over.

Good for filler, youngsters, something different, introducing modern boardgames, or just sillyfun.

Strategies: Don't ever turn the tower, extract the fuzzy that is loosest, place on the very top loosely and pass the tweezers quick(to end your turn).

Is it fun (yes) Is it kind of goofy (yes)

For another unique game, check out Dive(2021).

“Dorfromantik” is quite calm and enjoyable as a co-op boardgame. I previously only played it as a video game, but honestly it’s more fun as a boardgame. It’s a bit similar in feel to a co-op version of carcassonne, you place tiles and the board keeps getting bigger the more tiles you place. The pictures on the tiles decide how you get points based on how you place them

I have been playing the Steam game for some hours. It got a bit stale after a while but I still enjoyed it. It is interesting that you find the boardgame better than the original, will have to have a look into it :)

Spirit island - branch and claw. Played in 2p mode. No tips or strategies since it was our first game after buying it. Played with no scenarios either and with both the new spirits. It went surprisingly easy.

@grannyweatherwax @dpunked Same here! I’ve been soloing Spirit Island with Branch and Claw. I’m using everything except scenarios. I had avoided the game for a long time given how much I visually disliked the game. Big mistake on my end. I should know better. I’ve yet to see or play an Uwe Rosenberg that looked the least big attractive (my opinion, obviously) but I’ve liked all of them.

Most of our group was busy this week, so it was a 2P session with my partner. We got around to trying Unmatched: Cobbles and Fog. Neither of us had played before, so things got a bit messy with the rules a couple of times. Production quality is great - everything looks fantastic. The game may be a little lighter than I'd like, but seemed quite balanced at least! To compare, I think closest game I can think of is Dice Throne, but I think the dice throwing/manipulation does something a little more for me than the maneuvering of Unmatched. Still, fun was had!

My partner and I also received Dead Letter Society, a TTRPG about vampiric society pen pals writing letters to one another. We're in the process of making our characters to give it a go! I'm interested in using this game to connect with a friend that a couple of hours away, so this should be a good way!

This week, we're aiming to get Skyrim: The Adventure Game to the table again as we've got a hankering for massive table presence and fulfilling quests!

Cosmoctopus: a friend got the Kickstarter. Nice engine builder and resource management in mini. Theme looks nice but has really nothing to do with the game play. It is nice, I would play it again but don’t buy it. Keep the heros out: second run. Also a cute Kickstarter. The design is cute, the theme is there. I played the mice and the slime and like both but the mice like a little bit more. Nice coop game. Would play again (also not my game) Root: I love this game so much. But each time I play a different faction. And each time I forget a crucial part of the factions rules. For the first time ever I saw the eerie not go into turmoil. The game is only complete if you own all 3d printed third party extras. It adds soooo much.

I buy Terraforming Mars (never tried yet) and CloudAge on sale to give it a luck (the universe look cool).

I tested CloudAge in solo, just to get the flow. Took me 1h to finish the first scenario. Not all mechanisms are given on first scenario which (of course) feels kinda flat, but it's perfect to learn rules slowly. The game is cool, but what seems even better is the tiny campaign that slowly adds mechanisms and card in a story driven way. The campaign is supposed to take 7 plays and I will definitely do it.

We are currently still on the road and played more of Castles of Burgundy. We played a four player and a three player round which were a bit grueling because one of the players always took ages to make up their mind on what to do.

We also managed to squeeze in Ark Nova on the weekend. As always, a two player match which was fun but my gf is always very disappointed when she looses. This is not typical for her but I think it has something to do that you can end up having negative points. Sadly, its still my favorite game.

How long does an Ark Nova game take you? My SO loves the Zoo theme and I've been considering getting the game but I'm afraid it's too long for her.

[-] dpunked@feddit.de 3 points 1 year ago

The first game can be long but now it takes us around 1.5 to 2 hours. The game is amazing but more complex. My SO often just wings it and in many games this can work well. I think this is much harder to do in Ark Nova
