For those of us hit by the recent announcement here is a graph I found with some other services worth checking for your next voyages. I have crossed out All-Debrid too as that is also hosted in France and is bound to be hit by the same hammer as Real-Debrid was.

Feel free to share your alternative solutions in the comments below, but always do you research carefully!

The graph shows which Debrid services are supported by each addon for Stremio. Torbox seems to be a new popular and modern alternative. If anyone has any experience with any of the listed services then feel free to share your experiences in the comments.

Edit: Debrid-Link is also French!

This is why I just pay a small fee for access to a Plex/emby server.

[-] threeganzi@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago

What are some non-piracy use cases for real-debrid?

Why would someone pay for RD for that instead of just using the torrent there directly or the direct download from the servers? I don't know it seems like overkill to use a debrid service for something like that.

Afaik: Non.
Personal projects?

Out of the loop here, what happened to real debrid? Its the most useful piracy tool i have used in years.

[-] Sunny@slrpnk.net 17 points 1 week ago

In short: it's gone "full legal" mode. Blocking most used streaming sites and removed their API access. So it's literally unusable for folks sailing the high seas.

[-] Irelephant@lemm.ee 7 points 1 week ago

Yeah, very disappointing, luckily, the downloader still works semi-reliably for software. I only have 21 days left anyway.

yeah, that sucks. It was literally perfect for what i needed. ah well

Trying out TorBox as I write this. Has some cool features and it looks like a lot of people from RD are hopping over to it. New servers are arriving Monday for the huge amount of new users. And it's also quite cheap. There's a black friday sale going on right now too.

Having lived in France for 2 years i can say that the bureaucracy there is out of control. Paperwork upon paperwork upon paperwork to get ANYTHING done. That said, any formal notice probably took years to draft and send, and then the debrid folks probably can drag their heels for years. I'm personally not jumping ship quite yet but i'll pay month to month and wait it out.

Sounds like most countries in western Europe. Germany being the worst.

[-] Scipitie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 week ago

I wouldn't say that Germany is the worst.

Because my request to do so is pending since '09.

Kinda related, it seems that the Fen Light addon creator also says goodbye to the Kodi scene... It seems like a big day for streaming piracy.

I was able to fully switch to Prem this morning in < 15 minutes fwiw.

[-] Mr_Blott@feddit.uk 3 points 1 week ago

Any idea how this affects those of us who only use it for random stuff where torrents are too slow or to bypass Rapidshare speed limits?

[-] Sunny@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 week ago

Not sure tbh. Guess it depends what you are downloading and if you are using their service directly and not through their API. They will not block and ban people downloading stuff from their banned lists and their API can no longer be used.

It's better to switch Debrid Service to support someone willing to host a better service imo.

Me still using Premiumize.

Holiday Prepaid sale is live

~$3.86/month

w/36 month subscription

Seren/Otaku fed into TMDb add-on w/Arctic Fuze skin ✅

[-] rotkehle@feddit.org 2 points 1 week ago

debrid link is also hosted in France.

[-] SilentStorms@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago

How is Debrid-link? Its considerably cheaper than Premiumize

The 2 and 3 year black friday deal (only this week!) for premiumize is cheap per month

[-] Sunny@slrpnk.net 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Not sure myself, just went with one month of Premiumize to test that first. Will then try the rest too see which service suits me better.

Ah NVM... Debrid Link is also French.... https://debrid-link.com/legal

Afaik a remote torrent client that you stream the media from.
Something like a cross between a seedbox and a media cloud. Then you either implement it somehow into your media streamer like Jellyfin/Plex or a browser.

Aaaannnd Real Debrid is working again...wild ride this is

[-] Imprint9816@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 1 week ago

Why is AllDebrid crossed out? Just cause its French based as well?

[-] Draconic_NEO@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 6 days ago

Yeah, it will likely meet the same fate as RealDebrid in the future.

[-] Imprint9816@lemmy.dbzer0.com -2 points 6 days ago

What fate is that? RD still works lol

People just way to wrapped up in the reddit made panic

[-] Draconic_NEO@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 6 days ago

They removed some APIs and are blocking some torrents by name, other torrents may still work for now but don't get too comfortable though. They will likely start removing the cached torrents with copyrighted content in the future.

[-] Imprint9816@lemmy.dbzer0.com -2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

The API has been mostly worked around. stremio, the major addons, rdt, and zurg works.

People keep saying "just wait..." but nothing ever happens.

There have been issues caused by maintenance that were more troublesome then this.

You know what, do as you wish, just like @Sunny@slrpnk.net already said. It's your money and you're free to waste it. However this list and advice is here to help people who desire not to waste their own money not end up wasting their own. Now they've already given an official annoucement on their Twitter that they are taking steps to limit or action illegal content. If you wish to not see the writing on the wall that's up to you, but it does exist and it is happening.
