Explanation: After the US Civil War, many Confederate scumbucket losers fled to Brazil, which was one of the few countries left in the Americas which still allowed slavery.

Not long after the US Civil War, Emperor Pedro II, against the wishes and immense influence of local Brazilian elites, abolished slavery anyway.

Apparently Rita Lee, the singer from 1960s Brazilian psychedelic rock band Os Mutantes, was descended partly from some of these confederate slaveholders.
