War? Didn't Janeway nuke their asses in the past to keep them from getting to the Alpha quadrant?🤔

It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure I remember Janeway basically destroying the Borg's ability to travel. Temporary, but I don't remember an all out war with 'em. They had a thing with the Romulans, but that was more of a cold war, at least so far as how things were in the timeline for TNG, VOY and DS9.

Serious answer:

Janeway destroyed a major transport corridor while it was in use. So, in addition to crippling the Borg's ability to traverse the galaxy (particularly to the Alpha Quadrant), an untold number of ships and drones and the Queen herself were lost in the implosion.

The Borg being the Borg are going to prioritize self-preservation, so it is going to take a long, LONG time to rebuild what was lost. For the next few generations, outside worlds (particularly in the Alpha Quadrant) are mostly safe from being attacked.

She didn't completely defeat the Borg, just kicked the can way down the road.

The Voyager also created a bunch of weapons capable of hitting them, gathered a huge amount of very useful intelligence, created treatments against assimilation, fractured their command...

Even the the can was kicked for only a couple of years, they'll be fine.

When the Borg rears it's ugly head some years later...

Teamed up with the Dominion no less. That gif you shared was my exact reaction to most things in Picard.

Not really the Dominion, they were a "rogue group of changelings"
