- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

I got a metal ice cube tray and while it is a bit of a pain to use (it has two seperate pieces, the tray bottom and a grid attached to an arm and hinge to break the ice out, but good luck getting it all back together without removing all the ice), my ice just tastes like ice. It's better than the silicone molds but also the older plastic molds. I used to notice ice would get an off taste if left in the tray for long but now that never happens.
I'm convinced at this point that plastic has no business being in contact with things we consume. I'm curious if my attempts to reduce/avoid it have had any impact on how much microplastics have ended up in my brain lol.
Edit: the metal tray in the meme looks like it would be very frustrating to use.

Same tbh. I can taste it in my water if I use a plastic water bottle on a hot day.... So it makes me think it probably does the same to food. Honestly it shocks me how readily people are willing to use plastic when heating up food
In my opinion, the only plastic suitable for warm food is polypropylene and below 103°C. Polyethylene and polystyrene are yucky for food contact, and rubbers (including chewing gum) are horrible for food contact. Silicone I'm not sure about since I haven't properly studied it, but it seems like the fourth non miscible fluid (of ionic like water, greasy like oil, metallic like solder, and silicones), but if there's a plastic food product and it doesn't claim to be PP or silicone I will try not to use it. I like to get my food very very hot and crispy so polypropylene isn't suitable for me.
The stainless steel ones are totally worth. Worth getting a large lewis bag to store them in too imo

Pebbled ice is nicer imo, but it really depends on the drink
Agreed. I work from home and drink ice water all day. My countertop ice maker just shit the bed after a valiant three years of daily bullet ice production. But it was cheap, and hard to clean. I think I may pull the trigger on a nugget/pebble ice maker next due to its cleaning setup and because I think pebbled ice is much nicer.

Sphere ice rules:
It's kinda cool to use spherical ice, but it doesn't use freezer space efficiently.
My rebuttal is since there's spheres the contact point between "cubes" it prevents massive ice chunks from forming.
That has never been an issue for me ...
I got these trays because I had an icemaker fridge without a water line hooked up (landlords...).
Made ice and threw it in the dispenser.
Damn thing would jam all the time. Ice balls stopped the jamming.

I need the big trays, they’re how I store surplus soups and sauces. Small cubes would be impractical for anything with chunks and be more of a pain to portion.
I do the same to portion homemade sauces and such. I have a silicone cupcake tray where each cup is 1/2 cup of liquid. So I fill and freeze it and pop them all out into a baggie to keep frozen till I need them. Then I can make super quick dinner by grabbing a couple of pucks from the freezer and warming it up to go on pasta and grilled chicken.

I've never. I always eat, or drink, all the soup in 1-2 days max, if not in one sitting. I just can't help myself.

Freezing soup is fine, but not in fucking ice cube trays.
Pop em out and in to a container, pre portioned quick to melt soup.

My ice cube trays are what I'd call one of the platonic ideals of ice cube trays. White molded plastic, ability to stack with one another without touching the water so they don't freeze together, and you get to twist it to make the ice unstuck. Also vaguely bad at the job.

There's a few styles, here's one from Walmart, they're super cheap. Style I'm familiar with has these sort of notched feet to ensure they stay together but without touching the ice.
