Considering how much of the Trump family is involved in gambling websites, I assume they don't want him in the country because they can't bribe him easily.

No, it's because he's black.

You don't need 5 dimensional conspiracy theory to explain this.

Worse, he's a black from AFRICA!

Fifa is not involved in host country immigration processes, including visa adjudications

They are responsible for not having changed venues as soon as it was clear the US was not going to make the world cup a safe event for anyone, from fans, to players, to referees.

They are also responsible for not having dequalified the US when they abused their status as an host country to exclude referees or putting undue hardships on other national teams (especially Iran, but plenty of countries had trouble getting their teams in the US). They are opening the precedent that host countries can tip the scale how much they want without consequences.

Did you really expect better from FIFA?

[–] ViatorOmnium@piefed.social 7 points 5 hours ago

They used to draw the line at open cheating. I guess they just figured out there's no point on keeping any kind of public appearance of propriety.

Money don't care about that. People want to watch people chase and kick the ball. Money wants more money.

If people dumb enough to watch people chase around ball, I find it hard to complain about other people taking advantage of that.

Don't watch.

Boycott the damn thing.

Don't allow the United States to have the win.

[–] magnue@lemmy.world 11 points 4 hours ago

Yeah I'm actively avoiding this one. I might even see if I can add a filter to adguard to block all mention of it.

America is probably the closest country to nazi germany still surviving

[–] Mrkawfee@lemmy.world 15 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I think israel wins that hands down.

I think they are equivalent to nazis tbh, but you are right

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Yeah, Israelis are passionate about this genocide, which doesn’t really line up. The US has the faceless bureaucratic evil of 1930s Germany down.

I think it will be interesting to see the attendance figures from Canada and Mexico versus the Fascist States of America.

FIFA should have made up a couple more awards to bribe Trump with.

African countries should boycott FIFA-sponsored events. All countries ahould, really. Hit them where they feel it, in the wallet.

It would be little consolation, but I hope they can adjust the schedule to have Artan referee games in Mexico and Canada still.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 3 points 4 hours ago

The WC would continue without African teams however, and Africa represents a tiny part of FIFA income.

you don't even have to look past his first name to know exactly why he was denied entry by this administration.

It sounds like he didn’t even try being white!

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 4 points 6 hours ago

Sounds almost like Obama!

Yeah...that checks out. /s

A Somali referee, who was set to become the first person from his country to officiate at a World Cup, has been denied access to the US and will not work at the tournament.

Fear not. He will officiate at a future World Cup regardless. I’m glad it won’t be at such a shitty World Cup, and he won’t have to endure questions about America and Trump every time his history-making accomplishment is brought up. At this point, I hope he refuses even if his “status” magically changes.
