Speaking of switched plugs, I remember switched wall plugs in N.Ireland many years ago when I was there. Seems like a great idea everywhere.
In Australia, wall socket switches are pretty much standard. Couldn't imagine going back to not having them.
Seems like a great idea to me. I just want to find some here in the US.
Those are typically for lamps. Check your house wiring as sometimes they use higher gauge (thinner) wire than usual, that can't handle big appliances or electronics.
In Ireland? That's not the case in the UK.
Disable HDMI CEC in the settings. It's designed to let the Xbox turn on the TV or vice versa, but it's very buggy and can cause stuff like that to happen.
The TV doesn't turn on though. Just the Xbox.
I'll try and find the HDMI CEC settings to see if it helps. Thanks.
What about unplugging the HDMI cable to test, see if it still turns on
For trial and error purposes I just unplugged the HDMI cable, but it turns on so randomly that I won't know unless it turns on again. It usually does it days apart, almost like an update or something. I'll probably have to plug the HDMI back in tomorrow for Netflix, Amazon, etc. streaming.
For what it's worth, this happened to me for weeks and it turned out to be having cec on + a bad hdmi cable. Our best guess is that the cable had a minor short or didn't seat all the way and it was triggering cec to think there was a 'plug in' event or similar. Replacing the cable seems to have resolved it for the last month or two.
Ours does this as well. I've resorted to physically unplugging it when not in use.
That would be so frustrating. Especially since there are multiple users in this household.
Is this an Xbox one by chance? I used to repair those things and the touch sensor on that stupid power button can be wonky sometimes and would cause this exact issue. Why in the world they went with a touch sensitive button instead of physical button I have no clue.
It's lonely and asking for attention. Maybe you need to spend more time with it.

There’s a power setting akin to “always on” that allows the console to wake up and install updates as they become available. It increases power consumption substantially. If you don’t want this you need to turn it off, I think it is on by default. You can find it in settings.
I remember seeing and disabling that setting in the past. But knowing Microsoft I wouldn't be surprised if they reenabled it during an "update."
I can't seem to find it again in the settings. Do you (or anyone) know where exactly it is? I thought it was in power settings but can't find it.
With me it happens randomly when I talk to my Alexa. Perhaps a IOT thing is pinging it. It's very unlikely but that was my problem was fucking Alexa turning it on without my consent
Might be turning on to update the system. I would disable auto update and auto patch for games. Low power mode should also be enabled.
That's the problem, all those are disabled and it's on low power mode and it still "updates" without permission.
Try turning all the settings to the "wrong" choice, exiting out, then going back into settings and putting them all back to the "right" choice.
do you have any remote play apps connected to it? Also try turning off HDMI-CEC, another device could be triggering it to turn on.
Could it be a buggy controller or remote?
That's possible, but the controller X button doesn't light up so I doubt that. If it was the controller it would probably light up the controller too. Only the Xbox power button lights up.
have you got it set so when you turn the tv on it also turns on the Xbox?
No. I'll be sitting on the couch playing on my laptop and it will just turn on.

We have an Xbox one with auto update disabled and it does the same thing every now and then, we always blamed the cat's tail until we saw it happen by itself! As the commenter above said, I think it's an over-sensitive touch switch and you'd have to turn it off at the wall
Are you sure it's not a Furby?
