This is a brilliant way to get around spez's threats. The subreddit is open, the moderators are moderating, and any result of the poll is just the will of the community.

[-] shawnshitshow@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

yes I'm so glad someone thought of this - its genius and I hope it works!

[-] admiralteal@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

The idea that Spez et al would back down from the hypocrisy of saying "no not that way" and replacing the mods anyway is absurd.

But at least it will create some more stories about how awful the reddit admins are.

I feel so conflicted. On the one hand, going back to reddit feels dirty. On the other hand, who doesn't like some sexy John Oliver pics?

[-] -hypnotoad-@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

Lemmy needs to come together as a community and supply some sexy John Oliver pics!

[-] Havoc@lemmy.one 1 points 2 years ago

sexy John Oliver pics

Redundancy is redundant

[-] Kara@kbin.social 16 points 2 years ago

Great way to maliciously comply, and perhaps a great way to get John Oliver to talk about the Reddit dumpster fire on his show

[-] mim 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Didn't he talk about reddit before?

It would actually be great if news of this poll reached him. There's no way he wouldn't pick it up (at least for a side joke on another news piece).

EDIT; https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/14bai7s/henceforth_rpics_will_feature_only_images_of_john/joetykl/

[-] khelmr@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

I don't recall any episodes explicitly about reddit. I do know that he has cited reddit posts in many segments as sources or as jokes (example).

[-] Ech@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

A piece on the downfall of social media would be interesting.

[-] TGRush@forum.fail 15 points 2 years ago

I would also find it funny if they then linked a kbin magazine for posting actual pictures

Guess what website is going to be featured on Last Week Tonight for some reason.

[-] chaogomu@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago

Maybe when the writer's strike is over.

[-] 000@kbin.social 14 points 2 years ago

I've done my part!

[-] virgil31@kbin.social 13 points 2 years ago

malicious compliance <3

[-] S4nvers@kbin.social 12 points 2 years ago

The creative ways found by the communities to tell spez to fuck off is one of the few good things that has come from this disaster

There‘s clearly only one way forward for r/pics!

[-] darkknight@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago

Every pic of John oliver is a sexy pic.

[-] raspberriesareyummy@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago

thank you for the heads-up! I did my deed! 🤓

[-] swnt@feddit.de 8 points 2 years ago

Now, THAT'S malicious compliance 😂

[-] jrick@kbin.social 8 points 2 years ago

and this is precisely why i haven't deleted my reddit account yet

[-] bedrooms@kbin.social 8 points 2 years ago

How about every sub follow the same?

[-] atocci@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago

Looks like r/gifs is following as well

[-] joyjoy@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Require all posts in r/gaming to include a John Oliver facecam?

[-] debounced@kbin.run 1 points 2 years ago

this is the way

[-] ReCursing@kbin.social 8 points 2 years ago
[-] AnonymousLlama@kbin.social 7 points 2 years ago

I'm enjoying all of that subreddit changes and oddities that are popping up. Also pretty keen on seeing some of the random new community starting both on here and squabbles such as this one: https://squabbles.io/s/OnlyFlans

[-] Helldiver_M@kbin.social 7 points 2 years ago

This gave me the motivation to log into the old reddit account to have all my content edited. That is a worthy final upvote if I ever give one. Bring on the sexy John pics!

[-] pasci_lei@kbin.social 6 points 2 years ago

I guess John Oliver won. Good.

[-] nan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 years ago

This is the first time I've logged into reddit in a week or so. It's a trap?

[-] naunan@kbin.social 5 points 2 years ago

Reddit can just manipulate the vote so easily. But it's a funny statement. Wondering how it ends. Thanks for posting this here!

I've never sub'd to or posted in that sub, so the reason I'm shying away from voting is to avoid the appearance of "outside manipulation"

But hey, all the more power to former subbers!

[-] CookieJarObserver@feddit.de 4 points 2 years ago
[-] Eavolution@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

I read that as Jamie Oliver, that was confusing for a good few minutes.

[-] ReCursing@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

He was kinda cute when he was younger

[-] ilikemoney@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Endless content, I like it

[-] thefloatingpoint@feddit.de 2 points 2 years ago

Almost 60K for sexy John.

Bootlicking gets negative 11K.

The message is clear.

[-] abff08f4813c@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

Saw elsewhere on the fediverse - the vote won! /r/pics is moving to the new Oliver format!

[-] kulta@lemmy.fmhy.ml 2 points 2 years ago

This is the one form of reopening I support.

[-] comedy@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago
[-] JohannesOliver@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

Absolutely, take my vote.

[-] p3aNut@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

r/apple cave in. what the fuck. In the end most mods are only there for the power. When they are threaten to be remove, they gave up. Kuddos to r/pics and r/gifs, atleast they somehow outsmart fucking spez

[-] NotMyOldRedditName@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

Omg this is so beautiful. All my sexy John Oliver needs will be forever met. I hope he covers it.

[-] CosmicCraftsman@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

Sexy and informative… I like it
