In his first proper run on tires that were comparable, […] on what was probably his seventh lap of the day, would’ve put him on the front row of the grid.”

So should Checo start looking for a new day job?

[-] Barbarian772@feddit.de 11 points 1 year ago

I think whoever is better between Yuki and Daniel will be in the Red Bull next year.

To be honest, I don’t think Yuki is mature enough. His radios sound super stressed and he swears a lot. Albon couldn’t handle the pressure at RB and he was able to keep his cool. Yuki isn’t even keeping his cool at AT, therefore I don’t think Helmut would want him in the RB

Totally agree yuki may not be mature enough, but part of why he swears so much, from my understanding, is he learned English at the track, growing up around racers in Europe so tends to swear more then the average English speaker

[-] JJROKCZ@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Yea learning English from mechanics is much the same as learning English from sailors, these people typically speak rougher since there is no benefit to being “well spoken” in their line of work

[-] Ronno@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

I don’t think that is the reason. All drivers on the grid grew up on the track, most of them together. They all learned to swear from the mechanics. It doesn’t explain why he swears more then the other drivers

Some people just use profanity a lot? If I’m not trying every 3rd to 5th word can be some kind of profanity. It’s just how his/my generation speaks.

This is also something that happens in gaming. Japanese players learn English from gaming communities and it’s very rarely clean or proper. I think it’s more about the culture in Japan and how that translates

Yuki himself just says he’s a “shouty”, but it doesn’t effect his driving.

Sure he gets flustered here and there, but those moments are becoming less and there’s no better time to put him in the RB. He’s not getting any more ready than this and tbh hiring DR would be a huge slap in the face to their entire academy.

You think they’ll break Checo’s contract?

[-] Barbarian772@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago

I think hisbcontract is written like all their drivers in a way that they could easily put him into the Alpha Tauri

[-] subOrange@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

What’s his night time job? 😏

[-] BURN@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

Just remember everyone, this means absolutely nothing

They’re comparing to quali times, which were in a dry/wet crossover and DR was driving the new tyres

[-] CataclysmZA@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

We also don't know what his simulator times were like.

[-] BURN@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

They’re specifically referring to the tyre test in these statements, which mean nothing

Don't forget that the track was already rubbered in from the Grand Prix week-end, so it might not have been fully representative of Daniel's true pace.

I don't expect to see peak DR but there's no reason to put him out there if they expect him to finish a lap down on Sundays. They could have stuck with Devries or one of their academy drivers if they didn't see something in Riccardo's ability.

I just hope this stint will not be a repeat of the McLaren days for Ricciardo...
