We could say that Love, in fact, has quite a lot of power.

Appreciated. The 80s can't be fully understood without Germany... it was a factory of singles, many of them became hits all around the world. In fact, I believe Falco was the very first artist I posted in Lemmy myself, with his "der Kommissar".

edit: sorry, I forgot that Falco was austrian, not german. Still a good artist though... I posted another song of his in our 80's jukebox.

Japan had some terrific avant garde at the time, many of its bands had humoristic sensibilities, but were serious in being innovative in music. This song to me is a great example, it shouldn't sound good as most instruments are highly compressed and saturated, but it does. It has long passages of harmonic dissonance but still resolve in the tonic. Love it.

Great find, he's fantastic.

You're right. I'm not usually a fan of Madonna, but I think the arrangement and studio work of this single is very good. I really like the synth bass here.

Sure. No doubt Blondie made a brave and early exercise in the, then exotic, rap genre... and they managed to add a distinct flavor beyond the standard synthpop. To be honest, I enjoy this song greatly, from the moment the bells start ringing until the end, and felt that it couldn't be missing in our 80's playlist. Besides, for rap pioneers, Blondie was probably a gateway to the mainstream later in the decade.

Thanks for the history lesson, Rolando.

This song has a very nice groove to it, the musical texture is outstanding in this studio recording, and Debbie brings some outstanding vocals as always. Perhaps controversially, I do think that the rap section is a bit lacking in delivery... but the genre wasn't even mainstream at the time, this is just 1980. So there's that. And let's be honest, we're discussing Debbie Harry... and for some, mysterious, reason I feel very, very willing to forgive a blond beauty like her. Specially one with her voice.

Completely agree.

Probably so. I specially like this song coupled with the album introduction... it easily puts to rest the old idea that metal/hard rock music is just loud noise with no musicianship. Just wish the band had coupled both songs, like this, in their live performances.

Its not common for a band to last that long, while delivering great tunes even today. Judas is very special... although I personally enjoy their first period the best, still more in the hard-rock genre, but the songs were really awesome, and probably a bit underrated.

Falco was always great to listen to, but above all, just very, very fun.
