That’s quite the headline. Had to read it a few times to make sense of it.

So I signed up to transfem.social recently which runs Sharkey. Sharkey is a fork of Misskey that’s also compatible with the Mastodon API and federates with Mastodon servers. I’m extremely impressed by how easy and fun the user experience is so far. It has a great simple tutorial for new users, and achievement system (which you can turn off if you want), custom reactions, embedded swf files, and quite a bit more. IMO it blows Mastodon software out of the water as far as usability. It’s also a project led by trans devs which is cool too. You all should check it out if you’re curious: https://joinsharkey.org/

Yeah I might still try to get it working for fighting games, but honestly I'm looking more for fun then competitive play. Just installed RetroBat and love it so far (it's basically emulation station but still), so might focus a little more on getting netplay working through that. Once I get it figured out, I'd love to find people on Matrix to play some of these games with, and most of the roms would be small enough to just uploaded and shared through a chatroom.

I actually tried fightcade earlier and I love how easy it is to set up. I installed some json files that auto download games you want to play. Only problem is... I can't connect to anyone else. Might be a port forwarding issue and I'll have to tinker with it tomorrow.

EDIT: One downside of Fightcade though is that it's only 1v1. So, if you want to play 3-6 player beatemups or whatever else that's more than 2 players, it won't work. Does seem ideal for fighting games though.

THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!

So I was thinking of getting set up to play old arcade games with others on Matrix.

So far the options I've seen are MAMEHub, Kalliera, and RetroArch. I'd like to find something with a relatively seamless experience and I don't really know much about NETplay options. Anyone have experience with any of these or have other ideas?

Ok, now to discuss plans going forward. Priority right now will be finishing up this series. There are 12 total episodes, so 3 more nights including tonight. After that... Going to switch to a whole new FRIDAY SLOP EXTRAVAGANZA format that includes the following:

  • At least one western-style cartoon or something similarly fun
  • At least one tokusatsu episode
  • Finishing off with a fun feature film, likely funny b-movie, action film, monster movie, fun horror, etc.

Thoughts on this? For the first instance of it, I was planning on maybe showing the following lineup: S1E1 Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, E1 of "The High School Heroes" toku series, and the film TREMORS at the end.

Let me know your thoughts and suggestions below. Thanks!

Originally I stopped watching regularly after S2 but then got into later seasons more recently (thanks to you), and I have to agree that the later seasons are better in some ways. I especially love the focus on characters other than the Mane 6.

Yeah, I thought Fallout Equestria was good, though it is also pretty dark at points sadness

I have no idea about Project Horizons but I'll probably avoid it in that case.

What if I don't want to have kids but still want to play with legos and visit dinosaur museums?

Please tell me this is satire

The regular (non-problematic) fandom also never really went away. There are still plenty of MLP related fanfic sites, discord servers, forum sites, subreddits, YouTube creators, etc. out there. It definitely isn’t talked as much about outside of those spaces, but it’s still fairly active.

[–] Carcharodonna@hexbear.net 16 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Yeah I honestly haven’t seen any of that in the fandom in a long long time. Most MLP spaces I see these days are overwhelmingly queer. Maybe it’s just the spaces I tend to visit, but it seems like that part of the fandom fell off awhile ago.
