As someone who didn’t start listening to the pod until around 2020 and basically doesn’t listen anymore except once in a blue moon when they have an interesting guest (honestly the loss of Matt was huge) I’d love a best hits list of Christman takes. Also how are his books and the spinoff pod with him and Chris?

I did watch a handful of the cushvlog videos back in the day as well which were entertainingly impromptu and unhinged..

This article in the Guardian is definitely worth a read if you’re not intimately familiar with just how it got this way.. It’s 8 years old so it won’t cover recent history but does give you an idea of how it started.

And yes Robert Maxwell (father of Ghislaine) is mostly to blame.

I had a micro grow in college and barely smoked any of it but found it to be a fun plant to cultivate. Easy enough to get an okay yield but challenging to get the flowers to really shine. It honestly got me into gardening more generally and even though I don’t smoke any more or grow it I still appreciate that cannabis was my ‘gateway crop’ 🌱😂

Much of this reads like what the Democrats’ strategy has already been for the last 10 years or so with some additional calls towards a “moderate” “centrism” that has not proven to be as popular as left populist policies with most Americans. And a lot of it seems confused or just wrong. For example, Medicare for All is not an unpopular policy. Last I checked it it was polling at around a 60% approval.

Even if your politics are more centrist, I don’t see how this represents a substantive shift in any way. It’s minor tinkering around the edges or slightly altering messaging. That’s what the moment calls for? That’s the key to success and the way to fight back against an increasingly overt and ascendant strain of fascism in the country? If that’s what the Democratic leadership thinks then one must honestly wonder if the party is institutionally incapable of the change that would need to happen to actually win elections and improve their godawful approval ratings. And based on their donor base, this shouldn’t actually be surprising. The leadership is still utterly captured by and beholden to wealthy interests that would rather jump off a bridge than acknowledge that what Americans want is a party that will fight for meaningful material benefits in their standard of living as this implies meaningfully raising taxes and imposing costs or regulations on their businesses to ensure benefits for regular working class people who are struggling mightily.

I just realized that the search function doesn’t by default appear to show any posts that have been hidden. I understand how this may be desirable behavior for many who specifically hide posts in order to never see them for spam or other reasons, but since I have the setting enabled to automatically hide all posts as I read them this isn’t desirable behavior for me in case I am searching for something that I may have just read previously (but maybe forgot to save). Is there any way to change this behavior? I’m on iOS.

Yes. GLM 4.5 is excellent. I mostly use that along with Qwen3 and DeepSeek 3.1 Terminus (Thinking) these days.

If you’re wanting a similar style and most of the capability though probably somewhat lower quality components due to the affordable price, I bought the similarly-styled Ride1UP Portola and have been loving it. It’s even been mistaken for a Brompton before and has gotten a lot of compliments. And it’s a fraction of the price. I wish it had a torque instead of cadence sensor to trigger the electric assist but it has plenty of power and range for me. Check out the ‘warm gray’ colorway for the classic Brompton style.

Thanks. I may give an updated system prompt like this a shot. Not sure where mine went wrong other than maybe it wasn’t being honored or seen by OpenRouter (I’m not running 120b locally, it’s too large for my set up). I’m actually a bit confused on how to set parameters with OpenRouter.

[–] FrankLaskey@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yes, I do local host several models. Mostly the Qwen3 family stuff like 30b a3b etc. Have been trying GLM 4.5 a bit through OpenRouter and I’ve been liking the style pretty well. Interesting to know I could just pop in some larger RAM dimms potentially and run even larger models locally. The thing is OR is so cheap for many of these models and with zero data retention policies I feel a bit stupid for even buying a 24 GB VRAM GPU to begin with.

Is this Grok Code fast 1? I’ve noticed it’s hitting tops on OR for programming as of recently. I was going to try it out but it won’t respect my zero data retention preference unsurprisingly.

Honestly it has been good enough until recently when I’ve been struggling specifically with docker networking stuff and it’s been on the struggle bus with that. Yes, I’m using OpenRouter via OpenWebUI. I used to run a lot of stuff locally (mostly 4-b it quant 32b and smaller since I only have a single 3090) but lately I’ve been trying more larger models out on OpenRouter since many of the non proprietary ones are super cheap. Like fractions of a penny for a response.. Many are totally free to a point as well.

I find myself really appreciating what LLMs can do when it comes to help with software and tech support. I am a pretty adept PC power user who is not a programmer and (until recently) has only had a modest amount of experience with GNU/Linux. However, I have started to get into self-hosting my own FOSS apps and servers (started with OpenWebUI, now Jellyfin/Sonarr via Docker compose etc). I’m also reading a book about the Linux command line and trying to decipher the wold of black magic that is networking etc myself.

I have found that LLMs can really help with comprehension and troubleshooting. That said, lately I am struggling to get good troubleshooting advice out of my LLMs. Specifically, for troubleshooting docker container setups and networking issues.

I had been using Qwen3 Coder 480b, but tried out Claude Sonnet 4 recently and both have let me down a bit. They don’t seem to think systematically when offering troubleshooting tips (Qwen at least). I was hoping Claude would be better since it is an order of magnitude more expensive on OpenRouter, but so far it has not seemed so.

So, what LLM do you use for this type of work? Any other tips for using models as a resource for troubleshooting? I have been providing access to full logs etc and being as detailed as possible and still struggling to get good advice lately. I’m not talking full vibe coding here but just trying to figure out why my docker container is throwing errors etc. Thanks!

Note: I did search and found a somewhat similar post from 6 months ago or so but it wasn’t quite as specific and because 6 months is half a lifetime in LLM development, I figured I’d post as well. Here’s the post in question in case anyone is curious to see that one.

Italy is sending a ship to accompany the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla, who said its activists remain shaken but determined following an Israeli attack on Wednesday morning.

Organisers of expedition, which is attempting to carry aid to the Gaza Strip, shared footage this morning appears to show an explosion that detonated on one of the flotilla's vessels.

Late on Tuesday activists heard explosions and saw drones that targeted some of their boats, currently situated off Greece. "Multiple drones, unidentified objects dropped, communications jammed and explosions heard from a number of boats," the Global Sumud Flotilla said.

"I have authorised the immediate intervention of the Navy's frigate Fasan, which was sailing north of Crete and is heading towards the area," Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto said in a statement.

Ziff Davis and IGN routinely decide that work done by our laid off colleagues is not important. But inevitably, that crucial work falls onto those who remain.

Not this time. Not anymore.

Does anybody have some tips for growing lavender? My girlfriend desperately wants to grow some and can’t even get it to germinate in soil. I alsohave an indoor hydroponic system and we’ve tried it in the aerogarden as well with no luck.

I love the idea of the ‘scaled’ feed but I would like to eliminate posts with negative scores (more downvotes than upvotes) or maybe even scores less than 5 or so. Can this be done?

I have been discovering the joy of mixing different types of whole bean coffees before preparing them in my French press. I find that as long as you don’t do something crazy like mix a very light roast with a very dark roast you can end up with a lot of extra depth and roundness to the flavor. Thoughts? Am I insane? A heretic??? Have you tried it?
