The EU will capitulate to keep the US military in the EU. To be candid, I think the USA is an evil empire, but I'm more afraid for the world if the chauvanist Europeans ever had strong militaries again. Their whole culture is based on colonialism and exploitation. A weak europe is good for the world.

Trump counterbalance keeping it in check but my gut is saying once tariffs come in February there's going to be a market correction. Pure speculation on my part.

You're describing the internet though. If two people meet in a public space and conspire to commit a crime, the public space isn't fined. In the same way that if two people on Lemmy meet and then conspire to commit a crime, the space shouldn't be fined. If OTOH the platform owner was made aware and didn't take action, then yes that would be aiding a crime.

HVAC creating a slight metallic smell every time it starts up (lemmy.ml)
 

The best way I can describe it is when you have an oven on clean mode, that you start smelling that metallic kind of smell.

The watchmen came and put new filters on the HVAC unit, but I still get a wiff of it for the first 20-30 seconds of the unit starting up, and then it doesn't smell anymore. I'm wondering if whatever that smell is, is unhealthy, and what it could be?

Would getting a higher MERV filter help or is it likely something wrong with the unit?

You're lying down, trying to sleep. Some part of your body is itchy, scratching will wake you up, not scratching will remain itchy. Do you scratch or wait for the itch to go away? (lemmy.ml)
 

I have this issue often. I know if I scratch, it will wake me up and take longer to sleep because of my body movement. If I don't scratch, my mind only focuses on the itch. Sometimes I'll wait 5 minutes for the scratch to go away and then I just cave and start scratching any minor itch I have on my body. Has anyone just not moved and let the itch subside or does everyone scratch?

I recently read a funny comment and wanted to give it the 😂 reaction like I would on a Telegram post, but upvoted instead. Reddit had upvoting downvoting but wondering if Lemmy, being an open source innovative software, should evolve past the upvote downvote and allow for a wide range of emoji reactions to a post.

This movie came out in 1998 - there's a very famous scene where they're planning a heist at the Petronas towers. I've visited Malaysia and I still think about that movie.

Do people in Malaysia have common knowledge about that film at all, or is it like a meh reference.

For context, there's a film called Canadian Bacon that most Canadians over a certain age are aware of.
