almost entirely unrelated: i took the dog out to potty in the driveway a couple nights ago and I was looking up at the stars. He was hobbling around trying to find a good spot to pee and then finally started peeing. As I was looking at the stars I saw this gigantic shadow of wings float across the top of the house, cast from the streetlight across the street and behind me. I turned to look just as this gigantic white owl was about to swoop down and try to get my dog. I must have scared the shit out of it because it quickly aborted its little dive and flew into the gnarled walnut tree just above us. It sat there looking at me for a few seconds and then flew away. I've heard they're silent predators but goddamn I didn't realize just how silent they can be.

That's my unrelated owl story. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Nice.

I have heroic launcher but I've only ever used it for games that I actually own through the Epic Games Store.

I use OpenSnitch to prevent any unwanted outbound communications from applications.

Otherwise I use Lutris for any windows games.

I recently started grabbing jc141 releases which are games specifically packaged for linux that are compressed into a dwarfs image that do not require extraction. Unfortunately they don't work well on Linux Mint so I had to do a fair amount of finangling, with the help of various AI agents, to get them to run without having to extract everything. Essentially I had to install a linux distro that has all the libraries and whatnot needed to run them from the image in a container using Distrobox. Ubuntu 24.04 seemed to have what I needed to support my nvidia card and also have packages that the games need in order to run.

But overall I'm pretty much able to play anything that I would on Windows, but without worrying about viruses and trojans.

Yeah, I got into a job that I thought I always wanted. That was naive of me because once I was forced to do the thing it was no longer appealing. Hobbies do not make good jobs because a job will ruin your love of the thing in my experience.

At my last job i was the google admin and managed all the addresses of former employees and whatnot. We generally just set up forwarding to an email bucket. I saw these types of emails to just about every single former employee in the company and I used to get them as well. I think this is just what you suspected, someone scraped emails from the site, and blasted this template email out.

was just talking with my partner about this earlier today. She is FINALLY getting over her Trump sycophancy, which was borne out of a hatred of the democrats never doing anything and always expecting to just win by default. She was loving Trump just because he was showing how absolutely pathetic the democrats really are, which I can understand, but is also infurating on another level because she'd get mad at me for hating everyone, Trump included.

But now she's finally onboard with Trump is not great just because he's not Democrats. I can't believe it took this long but holy fuck what a hurdle to climb. But yeah we finally are in agreement on everything is fucked and none of this is good. And when Trump is gone the Democrats aren't going to roll ANY of this back and will continue to make shit worse.

What a good day today was.

In all honesty this is incredible. How was this not the case from the very beginning? Beyond banning cybersecurity products they'll want to become more reliant on their own silicon too. Each and every microprocessor produced in the US is ripe for backdooring. https://www.eejournal.com/article/clever-hack-finds-mystery-cpu-instructions/

There are seemingly endless opcodes that are not documented that probably only Intel/AMD and the NSA know how to use.

Probably the same for nvidia cards.

Fun with Chatterbox TTS

As of yesterday neither Jerboa nor Raccoon (mobile apps) are able to load anything on lemmygrad.ml. They time/error out and this hurts me. How can I browse lemmygrad in the work bathroom with just 1 hand if I have to use the website?

Suddenly today I'm not able to sign into Hexbear because it keeps telling me my 2FA code is incorrect. Nothing on my end has changed at all and my 2FA is done through BitWarden automatically. If I try more than 2 times to sign in it blocks me for over an hour from even attempting to sign in. I can't figure out wtf email address I used to sign up so I can't even reset the password. Halp! am @peeonyou on hexbear

I have never known any Palestinians, but I met 3 women today in the West Edmonton mall by chance. I'm here visiting in laws and they wanted to show us the biggest mall in North America so I put on my gray shirt that has an illustration of a colorful woman in a keffiyeh and it says Palestine in Arabic and English behind her. It is this one: https://a.co/d/02kA5Ll3

I love this shirt so much and I wear it every chance I get but I tend to get a lot of sneers in places with large crowds of people.

Today we walked all over this gigantic mall for hours while the in laws pointed out the craziness that is the indoor water park, the giant ship, and the amusement park. I didn't notice anyone paying any particular attention and pretty much forgot about my shirt soon after we started walking the mall.

Then after many hours when we were just about to leave, dad had to go pee so we walked to one of the restroom areas and as we did I saw a young woman look at me, have a very visible look of shock on her face and then while I tried not to directly acknowledge her I saw her whispering to another somewhat older woman who then looked me straight in the eye. I thought oh shit, someone is going to make a scene now, right in front of my mother in law. Then I saw them both approaching me and my heart started to pump as I waited for a verbal assault.

I quickly looked away trying to minimize the confrontation that was sure to come when the older woman came right up to me and said "We love your shirt!"

The intense relief I felt was amazing and then I felt so embarrassed for having been such a coward.

Then an even older lady came toward me and said "We are Palestinian and we love your shirt, thank you for wearing it today!"

I didn't even know how to react so I said thank you and I pumped my fist in the air and said something stupid like Stay Strong!

They walked on by, but there was nowhere to go in that direction and so they came back by me again and the oldest lady said "I just have to tell you how proud I am of you!"

I could have just melted right there. I had tears in my eyes immediately and I wanted to say so many things and give her a hug but I froze and stupidly just said thank you they continued on by.

It was the most touching moment I can remember having in the longest time and somehow I feel like such a jackass for not being able to express my emotions.

But I will never forget them and I hope even the people who don't show any reactions when they see it are at least forced to think about what these people are going through.

Anyway I just wanted to share this and I can only hope that they will be free from the zionist pigs someday real soon.

Huzzah for Mayor London Breed advancing the police state inch by inch. The police no longer have to worry about pesky lawsuits by overstepping their bounds using drones and other robotic means for surveillance and remote law enforcement. Now they can fly drones around and just follow people "suspected" of maybe having committed a crime, or not.

Ultra wealthy tech bros clink champagne glasses as the proles vote to kick the lowest among themselves off any public assistance by testing for any "illegal" drugs in their system before they can collect the paltry assistance that already requires navigating hoops and miles of red tape.

First time I think I've ever seen anything positive about the USSR in a video game.
