Don't forget the --no-preserve-root either. If you leave the roots intact, the French will just grow right back

You can fly at a height of up to 6ft/2m above the ground. You can propel yourself in any direction midair, expending energy at the same rate as the corresponding running speed, but without straining any muscles (so you will be tired but not sore). You will be fully subjected to drag and will be based on air speed, not ground speed. That means you could coast along all day at 20mph/30kmh in a strong tailwind, or get thrown backwards by a strong headwind.

OR

You can jump up to 30ft/9m high. You will also be able to comfortably land from that height. Jumping higher will require more work from your legs, and the highest jumps will leave your legs immediately quite sore. You will have control over how high you jump. You're not gonna be immobilized, but you are gonna feel it for the rest of the day. This only benefits your vertical, your horizontal will only be affected by increased air time to travel forward at the same speed as before (you'll be moving longer, not faster).

And at the end of the day, Luz's order is still the weirdest

(I would still try that though, I know what my username says)

Lateral Book

A new Lateral game book is now available for pre-order, slated for release on November 14th!

We are delighted to announce that the new Lateral game book is now available for pre-order!

100 questions, most of which are brand new, exclusive to the book, and will never appear on the show. Plus there's the best of the questions from the show itself, to play by yourself or with a group. It's great for meet-ups with friends, game nights, road trips and family gatherings.

Each question has all the official clues and background notes — all the stuff that‘s on the question cards but doesn‘t always make it into the show. Plus, there are warm-up questions and bonus articles.

Also, Tom‘s played all the new questions himself, so you can see if you can beat him.

Pre-orders count towards our first week sales which are super important in the publishing trade.

As of writing this post, pre-orders are only available for the UK edition, but editions for the US and rest of the world are also in the works ("coming soon"). Check the website for all the links and latest info

Lateral Live Show

There will be a live recording of an episode of Lateral in London on October 12th! Specifically at The Clapham Grand at 12:30 PM BST as part of Cheerful Earful Podcast Festival. There will also be opportunities to buy copies of the book early

You can buy tickets at https://lateralcast.com/live/

Season 2 Episode 8, the just-a-filler Hooty episode, premiered 3 years ago on July 31, 2021

In celebration, Cambridge has dedicated today's Word of the Day to be "adorkable" *

Screenshot of Cambridge Dictionary's Word of the Day: adorkable, defined as "(of a person or a thing) socially awkward or not fashionable, but in a way that makes you love or like it or them"

* (Disclaimer: there's no evidence this was actually intentional, but it seemed really fitting nonetheless)

I don't know about this one, I think Randall would be a good president. I support his policies.

It’s the latest lateral thinking cap that might or might not be imaginary!

Got inspired by the intro of the latest episode of @lateralcast and now I want a non-imaginary one…

I wonder if this was inspired by a recent xkcd?

At text: People may complain about readability, but even with jpeg compression, extracting the data points is usually computationally feasible if there aren't too many of them.

There's always a relevant xkcd:

(actually quite a few in this case...)

There's a new protocol for smart home devices called Matter, that let's them work across ecosystems (so for example smart lights set up with Google Home could be controlled through Apple HomeKit via Matter). Thread is part of how Matter devices communicate with each other (instead of e.g. WiFi or Bluetooth). The new iPhones can directly use Thread instead of needing another devices to act as a bridge to "translate" the commands

A fairly niche addition, but definitely not useless. And a big plus for those into smart home stuff

Worth noting, for those that aren't going to bother reading the first line of the article, this is ABC the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, not ABC the American Broadcasting Company
