It’s been long enough. We can make jokes about it now.

If no one buys these shoes that fall apart after breaking their toes, the growth of the Shoes-That-Injure-The-Wearer industry could really take a hit!

The homeless dude I saw at the coffee shop a few days ago who was “secretly” drinking from a plastic bottle of vodka and arguing with someone who wasn’t there had more class and intelligence than Trump.

To keep podcasts in a single comment thread, Behind the Bastards covered Pol Pot last year: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/105-behind-the-bastards-29236323/episode/part-one-the-pol-pot-episodes-273675171/

And Blowback season 5 is all about the Cambodian genocide and goes into the US and Chinese involvement at length: https://blowback.show/Season-5

They agreed on TWO things. The US and China both supported Pol Pot because they both hated Vietnam, and Pol Pot was going after Vietnamese people in Cambodia, and at least played with the idea of taking Vietnam on in a war.

Really needs to be a “DUUUUHHHH” community for stories like this.

Also, bodycams were always a cop wishlist item. They control the footage, does anyone think if ICE had bodycams there would be transparency? Of course not, there would be a ton of “malfunctioning” bodycams when they did some shit, and in any case where a civilian showed even a hint of resistance or that they might fight back, the footage would be used to bury them.

Imagine if 90% of the time, Spotify would only play an album if you asked to play it twice, unless it was an album in the billboard top ten, and sometimes it would decide to not play an album at all, and it had made deals with every record company that made physical media versions of albums cost $5,000. That’s what health insurance is like.

Except there are zero contracts in place to actually build those data centers, nor is there enough power generated to run them. I really wish tech journalists would do the background to determine if what these documented liars are saying is even possible, never mind likely.

Thank you, Threads is a garbage pit.

Appropriate that something in a neoliberal community is in the shitposting community too.

Oh look, the micropenis convention is in town and boy are they violent!

I’d like to hear from people who are living in the region, what specific things Nicholas Maduro did that made him notably bad. I realize that I live in an American media bubble, so the coverage I see is biased.

Their snouts are too long and their eyes are weird. They’re not cute, they’re another cautionary tale about selective breeding like pugs.

When I long press to pull up the context menu so I can save a photo, after I hit save the photo is zoomed in and does not respond to a double tap to zoom out. Is anyone else seeing this issue?

I have to go to a medical office at a hospital for some tests today. Not only does an ostensibly non-profit entity that makes an obscene amount of money from people who are sick or injured have the gall to charge for parking, but they have switched from the method of getting a ticket and paying later to an app that collects your data. I’m so fucking sick of every moment in life being monetized.

I want to start running, and I was going to start with a couch to 5k app. However, every app is either a subscription or wants access to every scrap of data on my phone, which should not be necessary to track my running and play music. Can anyone recommend an iOS app that does C25K without subscription or data mining? I’m happy to pay a one time purchase.

I know this is a little outside the normal scope of this community. However, I think it’s undeniable that a contributing factor to the ideas and behavior of contemporary tech oligarchs is their love of older sci-fi and fantasy literature. Seeing the authoritarian and sometimes even straightforwardly fascist ideals hidden in those works can be helpful in understanding how these people think.

Back in 1973, Rene Vienet, a member of the Situationist International, detourned an entire kung fu film, making “Can Dialectics Break Bricks?” Worth a watch if you have the time.

I’m a noob with sourdough and I have been having a hard time getting information on how to maintain a consistent amount of starter. Is it generally appropriate to discard half and replace that half with fresh flour and water?

Related, is “discard” in any meaningful way different from the starter itself, or are the recipes for discard scones/crackers/whatever just labeled that because you aren’t using the starter for rise?

I started reading this book by Gabor Maté, a doctor who has ADHD. In just the first chapter, I felt seen in a way that I have never experienced with any therapist or psychiatrist I have consulted in almost 47 years.
