Because one can be pinned down to government involvement, while the other can't.

It's the classic CCP defense: "We're not an authoritarian country, you're just racist!".

EDIT: not saying that it was or wasn't a lab leak, but as soon as the government shoots down the possibility with "you're racist", I immediately get suspicious. The same way that I get suspicious when Israel shoots down criticism with "you're just anti-Semitic". It's basically gaslighting with identity politics.

Russia is not even pretending to be communist anymore. It's a full blown corrupt capitalist oligarchy. But just because it's not an US ally, they will defend it.

I’m black fyi so no, I’m not going anywhere, you however will be leaving with your nazi trash

What does that have to do with anything?

You accused the website of being Nazi, when it has a left-leaning bias. How does being black make any difference regarding an uninformed opinion like that?

The fact that you're getting downvoted means that you're on topic.

While that is true, it does divert peoples' clicks.

Imagine you wrote a quality tech tutorial blog. Is it ok for OpenAI to take your content, train their models, and divert your previous readers away from your blog?

It's an open ethical question that it's not straightforward to answer.

EDIT: yes people also learn things and repost them. But the scale at which ChatGPT operates is unprecedented. We should probably let policy catch up. Otherwise we'll end up with the mess we currently have by letting Google and Facebook collect data for years without restrictions.

Honestly? Probably boredom. Computer-related projects are addictive to me.

Haven't ventured too far, but searxng was my first selfhosted service. It's very easy, single container, no database.

Kim Il Sung -> Kim Jong Il -> Kim Jong Un

How is this basically not a monarchy?

And this is the reason people in IT often refer to computers as "machines", because at some point they started to replace the people doing the computations, and they needed to differentiate.

(At least that's the story I've heard)

As much as I respect the guy, I think he's being naïve in that blog post.

This post explains very well why one should be very weary of this.

It was a classic Reddit move.

  1. Burn a brunch of money to implement a feature nobody asked for.

  2. Make that feature worse than what you already have.

  3. Burn more money maintaining that feature, as you now need to pay for more computing resources to support it.

  4. Whine about not being profitable.

I really don't want to sound snobbish, but people are really entitled these days.

"Omg you have to pick a server?! I'm going to have to spend more that 30s figuring out how this works? There is no alternative!"

When did everyone become a spoiled toddler? Just calm down, take some time to figure things out, and be patient.

I mean, he's invading Russia now.

I'd say that a bit more stern than just pulling out.
