Until your company, your salary and your job start deflating too.

[-] oce@jlai.lu 22 points 10 hours ago

I think the usual issue with deflation that people will wait for prices to keep going down and therefore keep buying less which feeds the deflation.

Are stupid non researched hypothesis allowed? I had in my mind: maybe those roles come from times when life was more violent, so having a strength advantage due to biology was an obvious way to hold power and impose rules that benefit your group/gender. I feel this somehow connects to emotional behaviors that may be required for war and politics, such as not showing your weaknesses. Then you have centuries of cultural development, such as religions, that created layers of justification for the social order that benefited the people in power, even when the physical strength advantage is not relevant anymore, and that’s what we consider tradition.
Reality is probably more complicated.
Is patriarchy and the emotional difference really specific to Western society, if we compare to Arabic, Indian or Chinese traditional cultures, for example?

I also recommend martial arts, especially for socially awkward people, lessons are very directed so you don't have to worry about what to do with your hands. There's a style for everyone, artistic, traditional, competitive, self-defense etc...

Maybe you have been unlucky with your machine because I haven't experienced that apart from the slow camera on a messaging app. All I have needed so far is replacing the battery once on my FP2, I'll probably do that for my 4 too. I agree that the pace of release is a bit too fast given the mission, but I think it's a commercial compromise they have found to stay afloat.

[-] oce@jlai.lu 1 points 3 days ago

What glitches do you have? I also have this one, and I don't have noticed much issues. The only thing that I noticed is the camera taking a bit of time to return the image when used inside a messaging app, which may be an issue of the app. I have no doubt every phone has some glitches sometimes.

Apart from the price premium, which is still far from Apple's, and seems rational considering they try to limit impact on the people and the planet, what are those serious compromises? I had the Fairphone 2, and I would agree this one was clunky, and you needed to be somewhat of an activist to stand it. But from the Fairphone 4 that I have now, and likely the 5th, I don't see much compromise, everything has been perfectly smooth for me.

Okinawa is closer to China and Taiwan than Japan mainland so it has been under mainly Chinese influence during its history until the 19th century. An interesting example is karate, born in Okinawa with a lot of Chinese roots, before getting Japanized during the 20th century.

What a misleading cherry picking, this was an exceptional event due to:

  1. Maintenance schedules being delayed because of COVID
  2. A new maintenance issue discovered and triggering a general inspection that created further delay
  3. Energy crisis related to the Russian invasion of Ukraine which dramatically reduced gas imports in Europe and skyrocketed the price of gas, and as a consequence the price of electricity, as gas is currently required to balance electricity consumption in winter.

As mentioned by the other comment, it has been the other way around for the previous 4 years and will very likely be the case too for this year and for the next years. Not only to Germany, but all inter-connected countries too, UK, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium are benefiting from this stable source. This is not a competition, it's a good thing Europe can work together with each other strength to make the grid more sustainable. The sudden shift of Germany against nuclear, which increased its electricity dependency on gas, coal and Russia, was not a good for Europe, and not only for energitical reasons. I hope Germany will be able to reduce this dependency as fast as possible and I am happy that French nuclear will contribute to it.

This is not an exceptional event and there was no damage.
I will try posting every time I feel an earthquake to give an idea of the frequency for people who never lived in such active countries.
I think I feel one about once a month. So far, it's mostly feeling a shake and, for the biggest I have lived, seeing the lamps move.

The app where this screenshot is from is called "NERV Disaster Prevention".

Children's Streets” consist in pedestrianizing the streets around nursery and elementary school. The aim is to make the route between home and school safer for children, but also to combat pollution.

Removable barriers are installed wherever possible. They allow the passage of emergency vehicles and services (garbage trucks, etc.), but prohibit the passage of other motorized vehicles.

Usually, it is organized and covered by your company and the results are sent straight to the company, with all the results of all the exams you have passed. If you do it separately you have to send them the results anyways, the law says they have to keep your results for 5 years.

As far as I know, it started from a good intention. Because too many companies were abusing their workers, the government made companies responsible for the health of their employees. But that was creepily applied as having the company know everything about your health so they can push you do do more health exams, get treated and change your lifestyle.

I guess it's part of the philosophy of putting the group before the individual.

While it seems most companies are respectful and will not check for anything not strictly necessary for the job, there are, as expected, horror stories of employees getting discriminated based on health results, for exemple missing a promotion because there's some warning in the results. There are also people who do a "healthy month" before the checkup so the company will see better results than reality.

I did check if the GDPR could protect me, but no, it only applies when you reside in EU.

The exam itself at the clinic was very professional and efficient.
