Donald Trump and White House officials walked back a Friday announcement that there would be tariff exemptions on imported electronics.

In a Truth Social post on Sunday, Trump directly denied the tariff exemption announcement.

“This is really mind-boggling. If this was serious industrial policy, the main thing you want is certainty: ‘Here’s the tariff, it will be in place for the indefinite future, and you should plan accordingly,’” Dean Baker, an economist at the Center for Economic and Policy Research, a left-leaning think tank, said, according to The Washington Post. “Here, it’s basically: ‘Come back next week and see what we’ve got.’ That’s no way to run an economy.”

A 9-foot-tall statue depicting a bust of tech billionaire Elon Musk has been vandalized in South Texas.

A photograph showing two areas where it appears a top layer of material has been stripped from the statue, revealing a white or pale gray layer underneath. A tattered ribbon of the top layer material hangs raggedly from the chin of the Musk sculpture.

The vandalism of the Musk sculpture joins a pattern of vandalization of property and vehicles associated with Musk, whose appointment as a top Trump adviser and head of the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, has drawn ire nationwide.

The Rio Grande Valley hasn’t been spared from that trend.

In February, a mural of Musk located in downtown Brownsville was defaced by graffiti that read “Deny Defend Depose,” along with an anarchy symbol that was scrawled in black spray paint over one of Musk’s cheeks.

Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.), a moderate Republican, slammed President Trump’s decision to fire the director of the National Security Agency (NSA) and his top deputy after demands from far-right influencer Laura Loomer, saying Sunday that China and Russia are “laughing at us” after that decision.

“I will tell you, this puts us back. It hurts us,” Bacon said in an interview on CBS News’s “Face the Nation.”

President Donald Trump’s promised tariffs are a day away – and they’ll go into effect sooner than some had expected. As in, immediately, the White House said Tuesday.

Russia says it is still "working with the US" after President Trump said he was "angry" and "pissed off" with Vladimir Putin.

In its first response to Trump's criticism of the Russian president, the Kremlin tried to play down the tensions between the two leaders.

"We continue working with the US side, first of all, on building our relations," spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said.

He said there were no plans for a call between Putin and Trump this week, but that Putin is open to one "if necessary".

Summary

Plans for a potential Trump third term are already being discussed, despite constitutional limitations.

Trump's former strategist Steve Bannon has suggested they're "working on it," while Trump himself has made several hints about running again after 2028.

Some Republicans, like Congressman Andy Ogles, have proposed amending the 22nd Amendment to allow three terms.

Constitutional law professor Michele Goodwin warns that Trump's administration has already shown "a display of lawlessness" with controversial executive orders and policies, while critics note Democratic opposition has been largely absent, allowing these discussions to gain traction.

President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he was pulling Rep. Elise Stefanik’s nomination to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, a stunning turnaround for his Cabinet pick after her confirmation had been stalled over concerns about Republicans’ tight margins in the House.

Trump confirmed he was withdrawing the New York Republican’s nomination in a Truth Social post, saying that it was “essential that we maintain EVERY Republican Seat in Congress.”

“We must be unified to accomplish our Mission, and Elise Stefanik has been a vital part of our efforts from the very beginning. I have asked Elise, as one of my biggest Allies, to remain in Congress,” the president said, without mentioning who he would nominate as a replacement for his last remaining Cabinet seat.

Stefanik’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
