Community Structure? (self.sdfpubnix)
submitted 2 years ago by david to c/sdfpubnix

What are we thinking in terms of the hierarchy here? Multiple communities on this instance, or just one community and consolidate into posts for topics?

This seems like a good community to have here since we have a large amount of interest in ham radio among SDF members. Let's discuss radio!

They're cheap, poor-fidelity, horrible propagation radios with handfuls of bugs (the one I bought years ago has a lot of trouble with frequency bleed).

But they're also now less than $20 USD on Amazon.

A picture at the end of a roll of film of iczer's aNONbbs. It ran on a Toshiba T1000 and was written in TELIX SLT scripting language.

I posted this yesterday on Mastodon, but it's awesome enough that I feel it bears repeating here:

This is such a neat project; not just IA and textfiles.com (which in and of themselves are amazing) but the digitization of all the old Computer Shopper magazine issues. Brings back a ton of memories.

Experience the TimeSharing System 8 on a PiDP-8/i. Can you complete the challenges and make the leaderboard?

A NABU Personal Computer made an appearance at the Seattle Commodore Computer Club last night demonstrating Cloud CP/M. The MSXROM emulator allows you to play many MSX games on the NABU from Cloud CP/M.

Hello and welcome!

Please make yourself at home and talk about your favorite old anime and manga. If you know what rec.arts.anime was, you'll feel right at home.

If you're up for it, reply here with a brief introduction including early anime memories and where you are today.

Last year it was announced that several of the previously released (but long out of print) and all (or almost all) of the previously unreleased in the US would be parceled out to a few different companies. AnimEigo got the rights to Macross 2 Lovers Again and will kickstart the release this summer.

I'm assuming it will be as filled with extras as their usual releases.

Wanted to get back into the DOS era of software and games (it’s what I grew up on.) I would have preferred something older, but I ended up with a Slot 1 Pentium III/500. Fortunately it has an ISA slot so all the truly DOS friendly sound cards.

Specs: Gateway 4W4 Something Pentium III/500 384MB Yamaha YMF715 ISA sound card (SoundBlaster Pro and OPL3) S3 Trio 3D/2X AGP mt32-pi (Roland MT-32 and General MIDI) Generic Compact Flash-IDE adapter Gravis Gamepad that still has that little joystick you screw in. 20” Dell Trinitron (forgot the model)

Testing it with Tyrian here, but my plan is to play through Ultima Underworld soon on it.

What’s everybody else’s vintage computer of choice?

From what we learned last September with the spike in Mastodon usage, we're getting a head of things. We're setting up multiple Lemmy servers to help balance load on front end requests just as we do with Mastodon. So far, Lemmy's performance has been excellent with minimal resource usage, but distributing the load for pict-rs and front end requests should help us if we do indeed (and hopefully so) get a rush of new folks that want to leave reddit and grow the Fediverse.
