People Who Hear Their Names Called at Night (morocconightmares.blogspot.com)
submitted 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) by NightWhisper@feddit.org to c/Horror@lemmy.ca

Last night, I clearly heard my name whispered in the darkness.

I wasn’t asleep… and no one was there.

Many people around the world report the same experience:

hearing their name called at night, softly, from nowhere.

Some believe it’s a psychological trick of the brain.

Others say it’s something far darker — spirits, shadows, or entities that only appear when the world is silent.

What makes it truly terrifying is that once it happens, it never feels like it was just imagination.

Have you ever heard your name when no one was around ?

She was not just a woman… she was a warrior.

During the Portuguese occupation, she fought with a courage that terrified her enemies.

After her disappearance, people began to whisper about her return.

They say she appears at night, dressed in white, her legs bent like an animal’s, her eyes fixed on those who dare remember her name.

Was she a real person… or something darker born from war and fear ?

Do stories like this exist in your country ?

Director Christophe Gans returns to the Silent Hill franchise with Return to Silent Hill, and Cineverse has lifted the fog on a brand new official poster this afternoon.

An adaptation of Silent Hill 2, one of the best survival horror games of all time, Return to Silent Hill releases in theaters January 23, 2026 from Cineverse & Bloody Disgusting.

Check out the new poster below along with the film’s official trailer.

“The perception of horror has changed completely, since 2006. We saw the rising of a new brand of horror film,” Christophe Gans explains. “Much more disturbing, much more psychological, much more playing with different levels of perception. It’s very exciting. It’s one of the reasons I thought it was the time to adapt Silent Hill 2.”

The upcoming movie brings the iconic horror franchise back to the big screen. When James receives a mysterious letter from his lost love Mary, he is drawn to Silent Hill—a once-familiar town now consumed by darkness. As he searches for her, James faces monstrous creatures and unravels a terrifying truth that will push him to the edge of his sanity.

Jeremy Irvine is James alongside Hannah Emily Anderson as Mary Crane.

Christophe Gans, who also directed the 2006 feature film adaptation of Silent Hill, wrote the script for the new movie alongside Sandra Vo-Anh and William Josef Schneider.

Man Finds Tape is a fairly interesting and well done film, especially for a directorial debut.

The indie horror game Iron Lung is getting a feature film adaptation from popular YouTube star Markiplier, and Variety has revealed the project’s first official poster this morning.

Here’s the official synopsis: “The stars are gone. The planets have disappeared. Only individuals aboard space stations or starships were left to give the end a name — The Quiet Rapture.

“After decades of decay and crumbling infrastructure, the Consolidation of Iron has made a discovery on a barren moon designated AT-5. An ocean of blood.
Hoping to discover desperately needed resources they immediately launch an expedition. A submarine is crafted and a convict is welded inside. Due to the pressure and depth of the ocean the forward viewport has been encased in metal. If successful, they will earn their freedom.

“If not, another will follow. This will be the 13th expedition.”

David Szymanski created the Iron Lung video game, which was named by Bloody Disgusting as one of the Best Indie Horror Video Games You Might’ve Missed in 2022.

Caroline Rose Kaplan, Troy Baker and Elsie Lovelock will also star in the movie.

Movies ‘The Boulet Brothers’ Holiday of Horrors’ Trailer – Shudder Anthology Stars Lauren LaVera, Bonnie Aarons, David Dastmalchian

Published 3 hours ago

on December 2, 2025

By Alex DiVincenzo

Emmy-nominated “Dragula” creators The Boulet Brothers are gifting fans with a holiday horror anthology this Christmas.

The Boulet Brothers’ Holiday of Horrors is coming down the chimney December 16 on Shudder. Watch the trailer below.

The film features four original shorts from genre powerhouses Swanthula & Dracmorda Boulet, Late Night with the Devil star David Dastmalchian, Malginant and M3GAN writer Akela Cooper, and “The Haunting of Hill House” and “Midnight Mass” actress Kate Siegel.

“Gaudete” is written and directed by the Boulets and stars Bonnie Aarons, Aaron Abrams, Briana Venskus, and Eloisa Huggins.

After inheriting their grandmother’s old house, a family attempts to settle in on Christmas Eve. But as strange sounds echo through the halls and tensions rise, an unseen presence forces them to face a chilling secret buried within the home.

“Yeti or Not” is directed by Dastmalchian from a script he co-wrote with Leah Kilpatrick and Jennifer Polania. Dastmalchian plays the Yeti with Lauren LaVera, Jennifer Polania, and Leah Kilpatrick.

Three close friends embark on a wilderness search to find their missing sister and friend. What they discover in the snow covered wild is something more terrifying and inhuman than they could have ever imagined.

“Old Acquaintance” is written and directed by Cooper and stars Tracie Thoms, Tiffany Smith, Charles Murray, and Abhora.

It’s New Years Eve and a woman returns home after her father’s sudden death only to find the demon that was haunting him is now after her.

“Down the Chimney” is written and directed by Siegel and features the voices of Dominic Hure, Theodora Flanagan, and Cody Flanagan.

The worst case scenario for good little boys and girls comes true…

Horror movies often show characters becoming detectives in their own mysteries, particularly when the actual authorities don’t believe them. Yet, there are plenty of movies where real detectives come upon a case that’s totally out of the ordinary and requires their thinking outside the box.

Skills and expertise don’t guarantee their own safety or yield the most desirable results in the end, but these professional problem-solvers keep the audience informed. After watching Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the latest entry in the Knives Out series, there’s no better time to dig up some other confounding cases.

Keep in mind, these ten movies are just a small sample of what the horror genre has to offer whenever detectives are steering the story.

Andrea, a university student in present-day Madrid, lives a seemingly normal life, until one day when her boyfriend is killed in a shocking act of violence. She soon begins to notice a mysterious entity that follows her no matter where she turns. Twenty years prior, Marie, a woman in Buenos Aires, suffered the same fate. Camila, a documentarian, learns of the threat these women faced, but no one will believe her. Across time and space, these three unconnected women are bound together by an inescapable terror.

We've been on a roll the last few years and had quite a few great new movies come out again this year. I'm not sure if anything is coming out in December that would topple it but I'd say my favourite has been.. Sinners. Just something about that Irish dance scene that really impressed me.

Otherwise cool movies I've watched has been Bring her back, The Monkey, Weapons, the Ugly Stepsister and most recently Frankenstein.

What about you lot?

Session 9 is one of those horror films that stay with you long after you have finished watching it. The film uses paranoia and dread to sink its teeth into you. Honestly, there are very few films that pull off the slow burn sensation in the same way as Session 9. However, the film still flies mainly under the radar. If you are one of the people who somehow missed this gem, settle in; things are about to get wild.

Personally, Last shift (2014).

Not meant movies get under my skin but that one really did.

  • Primate (a slasher blending family, comedy, and chimpanzee carnage)

  • Dead Man's Wire (a crime thriller based on true events from the late 1970s starring Bill Skarsgård)

  • A Knock in the Dark (a short animated horror film directed by Estee Fox)

Thanksgiving arrives next week, bringing with it the stressful chaos of the holidays and rewatches of holiday horror staples like Blood Rage and Thanksgiving. Despite the horror that the holidays can inspire, it’s a rather niche subgenre when it comes to Thanksgiving. If you’re already tired of the handful of classics or not feeling the holidays this year, this week’s streaming picks are dedicated to Thanksgiving-set horror movies that barely bother with the holidays at all. These titles take place on or around Thanksgiving, but quickly become too preoccupied with the terror to worry much about holiday tradition or theming.

  • Black Friday

  • The Boneyard

  • Deadly Friend

  • Escape Room

  • The Stepfather

Thanksgiving Day isn’t a popular cinematic slasher period, but we have found some that should satisfy your gizzards. Since some of these titles are decades old, we suggest looking on JustWatch to search out where to stream them.

  • Thanksgiving (2023)

  • Blood Freak (1972)

  • Blood Rage (1987)

  • Home Sweet Home (1981)

  • ThanksKilling (2008)

  • Kristy (2014)
