I was done with this guy since The Rally to Restore Sanity, 15 years ago.

On Real Time with Bill Maher, Bill Maher criticized the rally, saying that while Stewart and Colbert meant well, the message of the rally promoted a false equivalency between the left and the right, noting, "the big mistake of modern media has been this notion of balance for balance's sake. That the Left is just as violent and cruel as the Right ... there's a difference between a mad man and a madman."

I'm trying to decide if there is any material difference between making a Catholic pedophilia joke and the Muslim 42 virgins joke.

The entire 72 virgin narrative is made up orientalism to demonize Muslims as barbaric sex addicts.

Catholic church pedophelia coverups are a real thing.

It is my understanding that the 72 virgin narrative is derived from several hadith which mention 72 houri. What exactly the houri are seems pretty complicated from an outsiders perspective.

According to LLMs there's no actual source for this

The concept of "72 virgins" for martyrs in Islam is widely considered unreliable by scholars and many Muslims, as it is not found in the Quran and is based on weak or contested hadith (narrations).

And it links this page which seems to confirm that https://www.justislam.co.uk/does-the-quran-really-promise-islamic-martyrs-virgins-p-216.html

Imagine a Catholic orphanage being bombed and someone joking about how they'll be molested by priests in heaven or some shit. This isn't a joke in isolation, it's a joke downplaying real material harm, in this case the collective punishment of Iranians for daring to resist.

I can see a material difference between making a catholic joke at random and doing a Muslim joke after their country bomb the pope equivalent and family.

One of those is very real and verifiable in the material world.

So wouldn't that make the Catholic one worse?

Add jokes about Jews and circumcision to the pile. None should be off limits.
