During the first ever Committee on Delivery of Government Efficiency...

Oh god. The cancer is spreading.

"Is there any reason y’all did not look any further outside of Austin? In Waco, or Huntsville, Houston?” said State Rep. Briscoe Cain, R-Deer Park.

...

“For a long time I have had this idea,” Middleton said. “Why not move them to lower cost real estate around the state?”

Because moving is expensive. Moving an entire branch of government? Even moreso.

Middleton said the move could save taxpayers millions and create opportunities for people living in different regions of the state.

“It would create jobs in rural Texas that are not there right now,” he said.

Yeah, and eliminate jobs in Austin. But surely, that's just a happy accident, right? FFS, y'all. They can barely hide their glee as they fuck over the rest of us in the name of GoVeRnMeNt EfFiCiEnCy. Deficiency, more like.

@Telorand @Amoxtli @austin
I would be pretty happy, though, if they'd just build a whole new government town out on some unused land somewhere and move everything there and stop trying to run Austin. They could pack in their meals for their sessions every couple of years and close it all down when they leave.

They have the money to do your idea. Texas has a gigantic slush fund. I'm down to try it.
