For the first time in a long time, I have a woman asking me if I want to meet for a coffee.

I'd love to, but some fucking moron decided to dig without calling first and busted open a water main for the whole neighborhood and now I can't even take a shower. I am about to go to the store to buy a bunch of jugs of water just so I can flush the toilet.

No timeline on when it's going to be fixed, either.

Sometimes it really feels like the universe just likes to spit in my fucking face and then laugh at me.

Context

Alberta is a conservative Canadian province that is rich because they extract a lot of oil. The Alberta Government opposes all measures that could reduce oil-production or oil consumption.

For instance, when the Canadian Federal Government tried to take measures to reduce plastics pollution, the Alberta Government publically protested.

Calgary is the largest city in Alberta. The city has a traffic violence problem. Data shows it has the worse road deaths and injuries rate of any major Canadian city.

Jyoti Gondek, the Mayor of Calgary, recently suggested building more safe bike lanes to reduce car dependency. A few days later, her office received this warning letter

I had $50 in venmo, which I used to purchase groceries, because my bank account is currently negative.

Instead of using the $50 in my bank account, instead, a week later the $50 came out of my bank account, not touching the Venmo balance at all.

So now I have an overdraft fee, effectively meaning I paid 1.5 times for those groceries.

I don’t have “overdraft protection,” I’ve told my bank I don’t want overdrafts to go through, but fuck me for being poor I guess.

So some time ago I set up a BIOS "User" password and and "Admin" password on a laptop.

For those who doesn't know. A BIOS "User" password is prompted every time you boot a computer using that motherboard, and the "Admin" password is prompted when you attempt to enter the BIOS settings

If you have both set up, either password is accepted on boot, but only the "Admin" password is accepted for getting into the BIOS Settings.

I've just had both of these set up because I'm weird and paranoid (before you say "encryption", yes the disk is also encrypted), and I got into a habit of just using the Admin password for boot.

But now I think its unnecessary and annoying now and doesn't seem to do much since the disk is also encrypted, so I tried to remove the "User" password in the BIOS settings, but I forgot the User password. Inputing the Admin password is rejected as "incorrect password", but its accepted when you try to change to Admin password. Wtf lol. The Laptops I had before this one, allows the Admin to reset the User Password, wtf is this new change? Admin cannot reset User Password? Make zero sense lol. So I guess I'm just stuck with this unchangeable setting? Triggers my OCD so much that there's a setting now I can't toggle on/off.

I mean it's still perfectly usable as long as I keep the Admin password enabled and not mess with that, so this is the definition of mildly infuriating, just very samll annoyance I'm stuck with.

It's an Asus Zenbook btw if you're wondering.

I'm not sure if anyone cares about an update, but I wanna just vent a bit.

I got the email (as shown in the screenshot) on June 25 very late at night.

Welp, I filed a Chargeback immedialy upon reading that. Guess that's one store I can't go to anymore... 🤷‍♂️

Still have yet to hear back from the bank on their process, but they say they'll "temporarily credit the balance" while they "investigate".

If my Bank decides to screw with me, the next update is probably gonna be in "c/ActuallyInfuriating" (I hope everything goes through fine, fingers crossed)

I did some online searching, and found like a few different posts from Reddit with others saying they got the same "completed investigation... unable to provide refund or replacement" bullshit.

They didn't even give me a chance to send the video evidence. The rep on the phone said they would "contact me there are any updates or request further information", but didn't tell me where to send the video to. Nor did anyone contacted me to request it.

What I think happened with the so-called "investigation" is that, BestBuy just deferred it to Doordash, and they must've looked at the picture taken by the driver and just sided with their driver to protect their bottom line, and BestBuy just accepted that as an explanation.

Pictures are stationary lmfao. That proves nothing. Only that the package was at the door (which was actually a neighbor's door btw), not that the driver didn't just snatched it immediately after.

Tbh, I doubt things would change much even if they got the video, they don't take this seriously at all. They would've just said the video was blurry and deny refund.

Btw: I ended up ordering a different laptop from Amazon and they shipped with UPS and it arrived safely, with all security seals intact. I don't like how Amazon is taking over everything and have become monopolistic, but at least their stuff actually arrives...
