Right, doesn't take time.

Except for the crap that doesn't work out of the gate, like my 10 year old Logitech mouse or my new one).

Or SMB that retains your creds even though you didn't check the box, and when I spent an hour searching for why, found there was no why but I have to use a command line to clear those creds.

Come on, don't be disingenuous. No, more accurately, don't lie. The statement made in this post is a blatant lie. As someone who uses Linux every day, and first started tinkering with it about 2006, I can attest to the time it's taken to do some basic things. Like get any remote control app to work - where you have to edit config files (and know whether it uses spaces or tabs for delineation, and that maybe this app considers the last entry to be definitive)... In the twenty-first century.

I use Proxmox and Unraid every day. Don't get me started on the terrible design choices in Proxmox. One thing is in the gui, though the gui doesn't show it accurately, so you gotta use command line to see the detail, but the layout is... Command line, so seeing config info quickly just ain't gonna happen.

On and on.

Linux is fantastic, but let's stop this nonsense arguing that it takes no effort. I've spent more time on one machine recently, just getting installed, then I have on my last 20 windows installs (I do a lot of machine building and testing, not unusual to install Windows 2 or 3 times in a day). In fact, that particular machine still isn't fully up - and it was running Debian for a couple months last year so I know it's compatible and runs everything fine.

With Windows I boot the thumb drive, pick the OS, answer 15 questions, and walk away. Come back in 45 minutes and Windows is waiting for me. Linus I get to answer just as many questions, but it may/may not install completely. Or my wifi card won't be there, or another driver.

Greetings! Thank you very much for your comment!

Myself, the AnKorage, have used Linux for 28 years, albeit in a very limited fashion until 2014 when I first began using the Linux Desktop via Linux Mint. Ever since, I have not looked back. I have tried other distros, but always came back to Linux Mint. I have used Linux Mint Debian Edition, faithfully since version 4. Linux has served as my "Daily Driver" OS since 2014.

In the big picture, my "In-Depth" Linux knowledge is so very limited. Yet, here I am. I suppose how I would describe myself would be, "Average User +." Meaning, I'm very much an ordinary average-level user plus a tick or know just a hair more than the typical user. And, that 'hair more' isn't much beyond in general understanding; I may understand something, but may not have the immediate knowledge to take the next step should there be any.

In regards to Switched To Linux, I began watching its content for a few years and then met Tom 3 years, ago. Since just before, then, I became a supporter and began joining in on the Supporter Stream. I became a regular guest and continue to do so. Then, I earned Moderator status on the separate stream chats on YouTube, Odysee and Rumble. Over the past year or so, I began providing expanded convenience Social Media posts of Switched To Linux content. Finally, I became moderator of the Matrix chat. Today, I can only guess that I am considered a kind of 'staff member." I'm fully appreciative and do what I can to assist, namely in the Fediverse as there are freedoms, there, reach far further than environments that are proprietary and are like being inside a white picket fence.

Linux is a very good OS to use. It's secure, unobtrusive, no invasive telemetry, no data collection, no surveillance. It doesn't get in your way. It doesn't try to push anything. It's free of cost. It's Open Source. It's customizable. "It just works." It, very much "operates within the scope of the project," as it were.

I very much appreciate your comment(s) and invite you to join in on the conversation at the video platform of your preference. Here's are Direct Links to the video, itself, for your convenience...
