That's interesting. I figured I'd look it up on a map, see if I could find it without using the search function. I went past Guinea-Bissau and I saw a bunch of little islands with Portuguese names. It took me a while to realize I needed to go further south to find Equatorial Guinea.
I know Angola used to be a colony. You can kind of see how Portugese colonists stayed close to the west African coastline and stopped on offshore islands.
I wonder if there is any connection between Lagos, former capital of Nigeria, and Lagos, Portugal?
Edit: Wikipedia has a source that states it used to be called Eko but Portuguese traders renamed it Lagos for Lagos, Portugal since it was the basis for maritime expeditions to west Africa.
Lagos just means lakes. The city of Lagos in Nigeria is sprikled with lagoons along the coast. But the name is likely an homage to Lagos in Portugal because Lagos was an important city during the discovery age.
