The referendum was to see if Venezuelans still consider that Esequibo should be a part of Venezuela. It wasn't a referendum for an invasion.

This will be used in the ICJ as proof that Venezuelans still consider that land theirs even if it was colonized quite a few decades ago, from then on we will need to see what's going to happen.
