Throughout my academic life, I have met people from several countries and they all were nice, well, more or less.

I met:

An ukrainian guy, really really nice, up to date, we still are really good friends, he even decided to come to live to Spain.

A portuguese woman, really nice also, shouted a lot but was always ready to help and be helped.

Some pretty italian girls, really nice and from the first day wanted to feel part of our group.

Some belgian girls, although shy, were always there if you needed them, really wanted to learn more about our culture and language (really pretty girls by the way).

Some german guys, shy at the beginning, but we ended up being colleagues.

A couple of english guys, nicer than I have originally expected and wishing to explore our city.

And french guys... We tried to be nice to them, but they were always on their own, barely communicated with us and always in their "safe zone", each time I tried to interact with them, it looked like I was doing nothing but disturbing them and my mates too. It was difficult to make them participate on class and always spoke in french, doesn't matter in which lesson we were, in english lessons, french, spanish, german and italian ones... always in french. We ended up the academic year and we didn't know anything about them, nor did they participate on the activities that our foreign affairs office proposed them. Everybody were there but them.

Well, there was a guy from Paris who was really nice, although he was half-romanian.

Why are you french guys so "shy"?
