I got roped into watching American Horror Stories during Halloween, and one of them was actually pretty good because it was basically an episode of Black Mirror. Like, I forgot I was watching AHS.

To explain it very badly as to not spoil it:

Elon Stark puts Pepper Potts into ~~J.A.R.V.I.S~~ an Alexa and "she" falls in love with him. The story has elements of AI-generated deep fakes, isolation madness (in story, there's a covid-like lockdown which is plot relevant), unethical AIs, and has an ambiguous ending straight out of BM.

I think what gave it the Black Mirror vibe was that it seemed to extrapolate on current tech trends, dial them to 11, and shows how it plays out.

Can't believe I'm recommending an episode of AHS, but this one legitimately surprised me.

It stars Dan from Veep and I'm pretty sure Gwyneth Paltrow recorded all of her lines for the episode without getting out of her car.

I'm annoyed at the large plot hole in beyond the sea; why wouldn't you send the replicas to space instead of the humans. I have heard the argument "what if something goes wrong and the link is lost?" But the benefits of sending replicas is WAY larger than possibly losing the link. First and foremost, you wouldn't need any life support and could build an extremely robust spaceship without life support.

But I'm not here because the episode directly annoyed me, however, I'm annoyed that this episode is consistently ranked as either the best or second best of the season. How? It's not thought provoking or unique. I assumed the Ross character was going to snap and kill someone as soon as his family was killed. I suppose I didn't know who he was going to kill until the final scene, however it wasn't very suspenseful and the story telling to get to the end was incredibly slow and boring.

Does anyone agree? Anyone disagree? Why do you think the episode is great if you don't agree?

Late to the party, but I really enjoyed Demon 79. I know Black Mirror as an anthology doesn't do follow ups to its episodes, but I wouldn't mind if they made a one-time exception for this one.

What if, after crossing over, Nida learns that Gaap had been lying to her about all of it? He'd placed a wager with Satan over ruling earth...if Gaap could get an otherwise good human to murder three people in as many days, Gaap would take over as earth's new demonic ruler while Satan moved to another world. And with a kicker--if he could then get this human to join him in eternity, Gaap would take over all of Hell for the universe. Obviously Gaap had also lied about Chris not counting for Nida's killing spree to make her choice in joining him easy.

Satan took the bet. Gaap had previously ruled over a 'boring' world filled with good souls...it was basically untouchable by evil, and Gaap couldn't stand it anymore. Had Gaap failed in the bet Satan would have laid waste to both Gaap and his world of innocents, and he found this idea irresistible.

Nida actually triggered the destruction of Earth by fulfilling her kills. Satan had already been close to achieving this himself, he just needed a last push of evil in the form of a demon corrupting a good human to finish the job. Gaap hadn't known Earth would actually be destroyed and was somewhat pissed off when it began to happen. Earth was to be his after all.

Nida learns all of this after crossing over, and she's angry and more determined than ever. The demon power she gains allows her to appeal to the Council of Hell, whom she convinces that the entire bet is invalid since Satan destroyed the Earth. Both Gaap and Satan are banished to oblivion, and Nida takes over Gaap's innocent world as a benevolent demon.

The more I typed this the sillier it sounded, but for some reason I was compelled!

Just a random thought flashed through my mind that once Cliff and David were done with the space mission, back on the earth how hard it would have been for Cliff to prove David guilty?

As most episodes have some sci-fi element to them, last night I was thinking what's the one in Loch Henry. Mention of Netflix kinda seemed out of place so that stuck with me as well, but then an idea dawned on me: what if mention of Netflix is the sci-fi element?

In the previous episode we already saw that Streamberry is capable of very advanced stuff (e.g. quantum computer generating layers upon layers of reality).

What if the show was originally actually launched on Netflix, or at least recorded in the universe where Netflix exists, but Streamberry doesn't? The last scene where we see show running on Streamberry would be the sci-fi element in this case, as we are shown that they stole a film from a parallel universe? Wouldn't it be convenient to have rick-and-morty style of interdimensional cable and just steal the shows you love, instead of going through the hassle of recording them yourself. As we saw in the previous episode, they are obviously very interested in not wasting time recording their shows.

WDYT?

Season 6 is Awful (sopuli.xyz)

I've just finished season 6 and it felt like I was watching somehitng else instead of Black Mirror.

The only episode that felt like "Black Mirror" was the first one (even with that twist at the end), but the rest... Are we doing supernatural horror now?

I just finished watching Season 6. I was expecting the same realistic, grounded, futuristic stories as in previous seasons, but this time, the show took a more metaphoric approach. I liked the new flavor that Charlie Brooker added, but in that one episode it felt too fictional for Black Mirror (yes metaphorically it was spot on but still). I so wanna share my thoughts but being mindful of the spoilers as of now esp for the ones using mobile app lol.

But honestly I did enjoy. Full credits for the soundtracks choice. The majority were impeccable and blended soo nicely with the scenes. I've compiled a Spotify playlist of all the songs. I've also linked to a site that lists the songs episode by episode.

I hope you enjoy the season!

So I just watched this episode. Does anyone understand the ending? I'm not sure what I'm supposed to take away from this.

S6 depressing vibe? (lemmy.world)

Just finished Beyond the Sea. Has this season felt way more depressing than previous ones? Like holy cow, Beyond the Sea and Loch Henry... WOW! Very good episodes, but does not leave an enjoyable aftertaste. Maybe Love Death Robots has left me with too many "neat" idea episodes and I just forgot this is what Black Mirror is

EDIT: We can rely on the spoiler button (can be found along with the formatting/styling buttons) as spotted by @schmalls@lemmy.world but its highly suggested that we don't go with the spoilers for now as mobile app (Jerboa) doesn't support spoiler toggle currently
