Boutique Blurays was one of the subreddits I regularly frequent and I wanted to make a copy for the Fediverse. So post your thoughts BB, your collections, and your recent pickups. There's currently an Arrow Films sale as well.

Here is the subreddit for those unfamilar: https://old.reddit.com/r/boutiquebluray/

In a major boon for action film enthusiasts and physical media collectors, Shout! Studios is launching a new entertainment label dedicated to restored Hong Kong cinema classics.

The Hong Kong Cinema Classics line will spotlight a treasure trove of Hong Kong cinematic masterpieces, beginning with digital 4K releases in June before expanding to definitive-edition physical media.

The move comes on the back of Shout! Studios nabbing worldwide rights (excluding select Asian territories) to the coveted Golden Princess movie library.

John Woo’s “Hard Boiled” (starring Chow Yun-Fat and Tony Leung Chiu-wai) and Ringo Lam’s “City on Fire” (starring Chow Yun-Fat, Sun Yueh, and Danny Lee) will begin the digital rollout on June 24. July 8 brings John Woo’s “A Better Tomorrow” trilogy, followed by Tsui Hark’s “Peking Opera Blues” and John Woo’s “The Killer” on July 22. The digital releases continue with Tony Ching’s “A Chinese Ghost Story” trilogy on Aug. 5 and Woo’s “Bullet in the Head” on Aug. 19.

On the physical media front, “The Jet Li Collection” box set launches July 29, followed by Ringo Lam’s “City on Fire” on Aug. 26 and Tsui Hark’s “Peking Opera Blues” on Sept. 23, both as 4K UHD + Blu-ray combo packs. The series will be numbered for collectors, with the five Jet Li films designated as HKCC #1-5, “City on Fire” as HKCC #6, and “Peking Opera Blues” as HKCC #7.

In a major move set to electrify action film aficionados, Shout! Studios has nabbed worldwide rights (excluding select Asian territories) to the coveted Golden Princess movie library, a treasure trove of 156 Hong Kong cinema classics that’s been MIA from Western markets for decades.

The deal, which brings together Hollywood’s indie powerhouse with one of Hong Kong cinema’s most prestigious catalogs, includes genre-defining works from directing legends John Woo and Tsui Hark, alongside star-studded vehicles featuring Chow Yun-fat, Tony Leung Chiu-wai and Leslie Cheung.

The acquisition’s crown jewels include Woo’s action masterpieces “Hard Boiled,” “The Killer,” the complete “Better Tomorrow” trilogy, “Bullet in the Head” and “Once a Thief.” The library also boasts Ringo Lam’s “City on Fire,” “Prison on Fire” and its sequel; Eric Tsang’s “Aces Go Places”; Tsui’s “Peking Opera Blues”; Tony Ching’s “Chinese Ghost Story” trilogy; and additional hits like Wai Ka-fai’s “Peace Hotel,” Andrew Kam and Johnnie To’s “The Big Heat” and Alex Law’s “Now You See It, Now You Don’t.”

From Severin:

From Hammer Films to STAR WARS, he remains one of genre films’ best-loved actors. Now celebrate six of the most unexpected, rarely seen and decidedly curious performances from the legendary career of PETER CUSHING: Cushing delivers a rare villain turn in the 1960 aviation thriller CONE OF SILENCE. That same year, Cushing brought gentle dignity to The Boulting Brothers’ cold-war drama SUSPECT. In 1962’s THE MAN WHO FINALLY DIED, Cushing co-stars opposite Stanley Baker as a former Nazi hiding a grave post-war secret. Cushing returns to his iconic role of SHERLOCK HOLMES in these six surviving episodes of the 1968 BBC-TV series. The oft-maligned 1971 shocker BLOODSUCKERS can now be reassessed for the first time in its Restored Extended Version. And Cushing portrays a vampire for the first and only time in 1974’s off-the-wall erotic comedy TENDER DRACULA, premiering here in its Director’s Cut. Each disc has been mastered from original vault elements with over 16 total hours of trailers, commentaries, vintage interviews, location features and more, plus the all-new 200-page book PETER CUSHING: A PORTRAIT IN SIX SKETCHES by award-winning horror film historian Jonathan Rigby.

The films are:

  • Cone of Silence (1960)
  • Suspect (1960)
  • The Man Who Finally Died (1962)
  • Sherlock Holmes TV series (1968)
  • Bloodsuckers (1971)
  • Tender Dracula (1974)
