  • Some pickup lines to use "at your own risk" (these are paraphrased by me and I feel like I forgot some): I'm peace and I want to be with you; I was reading the book of Numbers and realized yours isn't in there; [some well known historical guy] had many wives because he didn't meet you; Bible says to feed hungry and give drink to thirsty so how about I take you to Chipotle; [something about rosary...] you can be my joyful mysteries for 5 decades
    • Someone said Chipotle isn't good, then the friar ask for a different place, and I wish I came up with the response "my basement" quicker so I could say it 😔
  • Some guys struggle with connecting with other guys, then they just be with girls, and their lack of male friendships led to something (emotional sharing or something like that) being excessive with girls
  • Better connection with men allows better connection with women
  • Men should talk to each other about personal struggles, including struggling with chastity
  • We should be "intentional" in seeking these friendships (in other words, try to develop male friendships)
  • Important reminder of the different levels of friendship (pleasure, utility, virtuous)
  • Differences between men and women, not very relevant here
  • Just like metal sharpens metal, men strengthen each other (from Bible if I recall correctly)
  • "The sharper we are, the more dangerous we are" (not in a bad way)
  • Deep friendships can be falsely seen as homosexuality, but they are actually completely good and non-sexual
    • He said that John leaning on Jesus's chest was not sexual

In retrospect, God definitely guided me to go to this talk. Naturally, it was more likely that I would go to another event instead or use the time to work on assignments.

It's possible that God broke* my laptop's motherboard to make me come to this talk. Maybe I will explain this in a post in a different community.

*very indirectly, but saying it this way is so funny

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- People who act shocked that a priest would bless a gay couple but have no problem with him blessing a crooked businessman are hypocrites, Pope Francis said.

“The most serious sins are those that are disguised with a more ‘angelic’ appearance. No one is scandalized if I give a blessing to an entrepreneur who perhaps exploits people, which is a very serious sin. Whereas they are scandalized if I give it to a homosexual -- this is hypocrisy,” he told the Italian magazine Credere.

The interview was scheduled for publication Feb. 8, but Vatican News reported on some of its content the day before when the magazine issued a press release about the interview.

Instead of "in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit amen", the priest said "why does it sound like you're out of breath"

Also I didn't say "bless me father for I have sinned"

I recently saw this post, where the comments say that a substitute is required when not abstaining from meat every Friday:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Catholicism/s/xAmZLIlk01

I thought I was falsely remembering figuring out that it can be skipped without a substitute, then I found this, which reveals my memory is correct:

https://www.catholic.com/magazine/print-edition/is-friday-penance-required

It seemed debatable to me, so I searched for links to the article on r/catholicism and found this:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Catholicism/s/OTaMhW5zuu

The part saying "it's demanded of you and we are obligated to obey" seems to indicate that the commenter didn't completely read the article, but this part convinced me:

You see in our society, we face many sins. We do what feels good and the world encourages us to do whatever feels good. Porn, over indulging, all sorts of things.

When we deny ourselves things we eat, we grow stronger at saying no to sin. This is why fasting is such a good practice.

If we can say no to things we need, then we can say no to things we don't need.

Sin that I can grow stronger at saying no to includes cowardice. That's the most exciting part for me.

Instead of abstaining from meat, I will stop using Reddit and Lemmy on Fridays. I will probaly sacrifice more in the future.

ive lost my faith, alot of my childhood was built on lies, went to church every sunday not for religion but for schooling (me going to church meant i could go to a private religious school), while my dad said he was catholic but cheated, did indecent things, i actually was catholic, although was never baptized, my dad had lied to the church about that too, i am now an adult and with a confusing passed i chose to move from religion. i am now coming to a point in my life where i feel like reconnecting.

where do i start, how can i find a community. even preying feel disingenuous.
