Hello fellow CD collectors!

I was hoping to make a megathread for the community containing a bunch of useful CD information and links. If you have any links of info regarding CDs, where to buy them, how to listen to, burn, rip and look after them, or even just general tips that could be thrown in then please let me know :D

What I mean by that is, what is the one CD in your collection that is out of character compared to the rest of your albums. For me, it's this Miami bass compilation from the late 80s called The Miami Bass Express. I saw it at the thrift store for $2 and decided to give it a go. Definitely not something I would normally listen to, but it's kinda fun to put on once in a while.

I will start off by stating I am an audiophile and I enjoy comparing differences between different pressings/editions of the same album. Brothers in Arms is one of my favorite albums to listen to. The early CD presses are some of the best sounding CD's I have ever heard.

I recently picked up a West German for Europe copy of Brothers in Arms. I read on the Steve Hoffman forums that this pressing is the best sounding version of the album. After listening, I think it may be.

I have listened to the 1985 US LP, 1985 US CD, 1996 US remastered CD, 2005 remastered European SACD, 2013 remastered US SACD, and the new 40th anniversary remaster. This original European press sounds amazing except for one issue. At the 5:14 mark on "Your Latest Trick" there is a noticeable audio glitch that is absent from every other version of the album.

I'm kind of disappointed because it sort of ruins the experience for me. This album was a showcase for what digital audio was capable of and the glitch kind of ruins that.

I wonder if maybe it was a bad batch from the factory. Maybe the master was in some way damaged. I was wondering If anyone here who has a copy of the West German for Europe could confirm if there copy has it or not. If that's too much work than understandable. Thanks for reading!

I've been a huge Car Seat Headrest fan since 2016. I've been streaming it while waiting for it to be delivered.

I recently got a rather pristine copy of They Might Be Giants' 1996 single S-E-X-X-Y, mostly for a few bonus tracks unavailable on streaming. Like, it was in shrink wrap with hype sticker, albeit shrink wrap on its last legs - good enough that the rest of it was still in near mint condition, but too damaged for it to be worth keeping on, so I took a 2400 DPI scan of the hype sticker and removed it. Don't worry - I kept the hype sticker.

I want to keep it very fresh - I ripped the CD to my PC and plan on never taking it out of the case again. For now, I have put a zip lock around the case to prevent it gathering dust or getting fingerprints from handling.

However, since it's an FLP case, I am more worried about the case being crushed than a typical jewel case. While I don't plan on getting too ruff with it, I want something a bit harder.

Thus, I was wondering if any of you guys have any particular strategy for this case?

I've looked into CD display cases, but am otherwise having trouble finding results that aren't just CD jewel cases. I was thinking maybe something like the anti-theft containers retailers keep video games in, if they ever made a CD-sized version.

There used to be CD stores and every major outlet had some assortment of CDs. Then they all went online and you could order CDs from all sorts of quant and off colour websites. But that's all gone now, or have escaped me. How do people get there CDs today?
