Apologies for not putting a reminder up but Oktoberfest Zinzinnati is back and running through Sunday. Here's a short "review" of how it seems now that it's down at Sawyer Point.

Space

First things first- it feels way, way more open and manageable. Time will tell with bigger crowds that will come this weekend but the initial impression is it feels much better. You can move around, plenty of seating, and they wisely oriented food trucks and booths away from each other so the lines don't run into each other like we always had on 5th, etc.

Ambiance

Also tons better. You get the great view of the river right there, the shade of the trees, and no heat coming back at you from asphalt. The Festzelt (main tent) is quite large and has nice attention to detail on the inside. There are a few biergartens spread about and the use of the Serpentine Wall for extra performance space is great. Plenty of beer booths spread about, a decent amount of food options as well. Lastly- the huge flags flying over Sawyer Point are a great touch.

Parking

From what I hear pretty good. Lots of space on Eggleston and you can of course park over in KY if you're on that side to begin with and just walk over the purple people bridge.

Transit and pedestrian

Pretty good overall though not as convenient as 5th or 2nd/3rd. Closest bus stops are probably Govt Square. The streetcar of course drops off at 2nd and that isn't a terrible walk to the west entrance. Biking is accessible with lots of places to lock up (trees or other) or taking a red bike right to the entrance of the purple people bridge (assuming there is an open slot to lock it). Pedestrian access is great as there is no fencing unlike Riverfest so you can approach from any which way.

Cons

Not many that I've seen so far. Time will tell about the ability to handle crowds but the one notable "con" (oddity rather) is that they put all the wares vendors over on the far east side of the fest space. Make sure to go visit them as there is some cool stuff that way.]

Prost!

RIP. I never got the chance to go but heard good things.

More importantly, best of luck to the family through a trying time.

Going to sticky this for a bit just because I love this event.

For those who don't know, this ended in 2017 but had a good run before it. Basically some collabs were done (or in past years, one collab) and the beer was served at places all over the city. It just celebrates the wonderful beer city that Cincinnati is. Special tappings, knowlege events, etc.

The lagering vaults, according to that document, were to become a restaurant or a bar with “vast skylights and monumental stairs leading down into the space.”

FC Cincinnati scrapped that vision sometime between 2021 and late 2022, when it presented the new concept plan to the West End Community Council. It contracted with O'Rourke Wrecking in spring 2023 to demolish the building to grade level.

Bait and switch. Expect nothing less from them.

Just a reminder there are a few events around town. Post more if I forgot something.

  • OTRberfest- Fri-Sun at Rhinegeist/Northern Row breweries. Goat yoga, etc. etc. Inaugural OTR Oktoberfest so let's see how it goes
  • Listermann turns 16! Saturday Sept 7 starting at 11am (IIRC). Good beer all weekend with some limited new items and old classic likes Brass Monkey. They have some cuvees, stouts, chickow variants, etc. so come on down and celebrate. Reminder- the restaurant is now open after being taken in-house so food and beer both available (and mead, etc. etc.)

I have included this one in the Oktoberfest megathread. We shall see how it fits.

This obviously is the first time they're doing it and it's not a traditional style Oktoberfest though I am guessing Northern Row's parking lot area will be featured (maybe as the mentioned Festgarten.)

It fits neatly in the Oktoberfest calendar between Germania and Covington. Prost!

I don't have an event post up this couple of months so this'll do.

Listermann is having their 16th anniversary party Saturday September 7 starting at 11am.

Also, as of yesterday they are doing their cellar sale so they have some like Coconut Fudge Chickow!, Barrel Wears Prada, Me Want Cookie Dough, and others for sale.

Sadly they did not send a link that I can share- just an email newsletter. So hit up their social media maybe for more details.

Mellotone co-owners Dennis Kramer-Wine, the former director of culture and founding director of distribution at nearby Rhinegeist Brewery, and Alexandra Nowell, a career brewer and founding brewmaster at Three Weavers, one of the largest craft breweries in Los Angeles, have been searching for the perfect spot for the past two years.

Post up new beer releases you're aware of.

To start-

Listermann

  • Bier Leicht We brewed this American Light Lager to celebrate everything Cincinnati Sports. Brewed with American pilsner malt and rice for a beautiful golden color, a honey malt sweetness, and a crisp dry finish. Ample lagering time and American Hops smooth this beer out to be an absolute crusher.
  • Festbier An annual Listermann staple, our Festbier honors Zinzinnati's rich German history. Brewed exclusively with Weyermann pilsner, Vienna and Munich malts. It is the perfect lager to help you kick off the celebration. Prost!
