Please forgive me if I use any wrong terminology, this is my first time delving into the world of typewriters. I found this beautiful old typewriter and it seems to be mostly still functional. The only thing wrong with it aside from needing a new ribbon is that the carriage just won't engage. It just stays off to the side and when I try to push it back over it goes right back again. Would that be due to a damaged latch or am I just not operating it correctly? I can send more pictures later if needed. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Might be of interest to some US-based people out there...?

Just came across this article from 2017, thought this community might appreciate it.

I purchased this last week in Wellington, Colorado. The Model D Executive has an unusual feature for a typewriter: a proportionally-spaced font.

This typewriter still needs a lot of work, I plan to have it professionally serviced soon.

I look forward to using it for writing letters.

The typewriter is HEAVY. When you hit the carriage return and the platen snaps back, it shakes the whole desk.

This Olympia has a cursive font, which would make it well-suited for writing letters.

Sorry if this is off topic — I’m a legit typewriter fellow… repair drawbands left and right…

But still figuring out Lemmy.
